Hi ericpascoe, I would really appreciate yr insights and updated probable selections for the draft.
Have things changed much since yr last message.
Hanging for fresher updates.
Thanks
Don't blame anyone but the club if EP names all six players and they all happen to come to fruition.

"The Blues are Brodie fans, but would be unlikely to pair him with superstar Patrick Cripps."

The context is our first round pick. But the logic suggests something broader in regard to our midfield balance. If we don't want to pair Cripps with Brodie. Why would we want to pair him with a slightly inferior version of Brodie?
You're logic isn't right.

Handy type isn't he and they obviously had a couple of useful mids at the Pioneers and at least he's not slow. Think he'd be an excellent choice especially if you took SPS at 5. Who do you like at 48 & 63???
Based on our phantom, slim chance at a bid on Scheer, Mutch and Williams @ 48, while looking at Luke Ryan, Patrick Kerr, Parfitt, Zurhaar, Begley, McLarty, Hamish Brayshaw, Hampton and a few others.

63, 66 & 70, Olango, Bayok, Ben Long, Sam McLachlan, Ben Davis, Liam Baker, Brett Eddy, maybe Morrison?

Whatever the case, I can see 70+ players that I'm happy to pick from, which means there'll be heaps of candidates on the board at those four picks.

I like to set the bar low and regulate expectations so I'm not disappointed.
I like Fisher as well, because he has footy smarts in that he seems to know where the ball is going next. Yep he is small/light but his judgement makes up for that and his kicking is fantastic. He gets to the bottom of packs and has no fear about it...........is built like "skinny lappin" but has a burst of speed off the mark........plus didn`t someone on BF say that Carlton has been watching him for awhile now ??? If they take the hyphen at pick#5 probably would go for bigger body at pick #25 though.

Carlton have a habit of taking players they know they can get so Fisher it probably is.

Was refering to the last update on forum from ericpascoe and not a personal message to me, my bad.

Who is to say the best available tall will be Kerr? I'm thinking Ridley with His versatility might be a good get with our second or third pick after a bid on Macreadie fails (maybe before our pick). My wants with our second pick run the whole gamut of different player types.

Exactly what I mean. Best available. Not advocating Kerr, best available.

Pity some gundu pissed off ericpascoe, he’s a valuable contributor to this forum.

I may have missed what happened and will always value any inside info but as long as whatever was said to EP wasn't a personal attack, then healthy debate, and respectful questioning/discussions of posts, regardless of the poster should be encouraged.
If anybody gets a tad highly strung about that then stiff shit I say.

Best case in this scenario would have Lions bidding on Bowes.

1. ESS - McGrath
2. GWS - Ainsworth
3. GC - Bowes (Bris bid)
4. GWS - Setterfield (Carlton bid for the fun of it)
5. CAR - McLuggage

After Trump's win, anything could happen.
If Brisbane's bid at pick 3 for Bowes is matched by GC, Bris then gets pick 4. If they bid Setterfield at 4 and GWS match, Bris then gets pick 5.

Interested to hear people's opinion of Luke Bunker. I picked him in the original phantom draft and would've in the the second if Port had a pick after 31. Prolific inside ball winner in the champs and his disposal looked pretty neat and he is a good size.

Didn't get invited to the combine so obviously he isn't going to be a high pick, he must have some knocks on him (I guess speed would be one). I would be happy if we got him with one of our later picks.

Well after being a huge Will Brodie fan all yr after watching and reading up on players available around pick 5 i changed my preference to Tim Taranto reminds me of a steel sidebottom classy mid/fwd. At pick 25 i would go for a ball getting mid, one of, in order of preference Dylan clarke, Zac Fisher, Jack Graham or Oliver Florent

Ok anyone seen back to the future? You know when doc slips and hits his head on the toilet bowl?
I had a gym slip in change room, middle of tiled floor my face lands flat down almost face plant and there is a small circular drain right in front of my eyes are the letters SPS!
Welcome to Carlton SPS!
Just glad you didn't slip and land with your head in the toilet bowl.

It was me apparently, but they've repeatedly kicked up a massive fuss whenever the info has been discussed in a critical light. This time, all I said was 'it sounds like someone's blowing smoke up your arse, or you're blowing it up ours' RE: Hayward @ 5.

I probably should have dropped the last part, because EP has consistently passed on info in good faith. ericpascoe if you're still keeping an eye out, feel free to come back buddy because, despite outward appearances, no one here is trying to bite your head off.

Also keen to hear from barass70 and deathanxiety, particularly the latter because it's been a while and I'm worried that the anxiety over death has proven to be warranted.

I think his pace is an issue, not sure he's super clean with the footy either (from memory). If we're looking at tall mids late, this guy might be worth a look:

He looks a very good decision maker as well. I really rate Fisher, his frame may limit his game time in the first few years but hard runners who make good decisions are always valuable.

Fisher played 10 games of WAFL League this year, handled himself extremely well. Competing against the bigger bodies, especially at his size, is considered a crucial step for kids transitioning to the AFL.

I don't know why you would say that. In the past we did that, but last year SOS played the draft beautifully and took McKay ahead of Adelaide's pick as they were after him and then took Curnow, who several recruiters (according to Quayle) rated in the top 3. That was clearly a strategy to get "best available" with all selections.

You could maybe make a case for Cuningham, but clearly SOS rated him with his speed and skill. I think if someone like Gresham had've slid I'm sure he would have taken whoever was higher on the list.

Yeah, I'm not talking last year but I am admittedly paranoid that it might happen again. We have to rate a slew of players and pick the one that falls to us. There seemed to be a lot of self-satisfaction that we could pick a player and talk him up no matter what other club may or may not have been circling. With that in mind, it reminds me of a vulture happy with a small carcass whilst all the others were fighting over the big stuff.

Btw, I think you have no idea about the value on certain players. EP is not the first person I've heard about Hayward coming to Carlton.

I totally get that I'm not across every aspect of player analysis by virtue of not being able to speak to all of these guys and have a full year's tape & analysis (or 3-4, as it is in many cases), but I'd be properly stunned if we took Hayward at 5, and am content in the belief that any such rumour is a smokescreen.
