Decide for yourself:

I think with plowman and Byrne as 3rd tall rebounding defenders , we have other needs . We also have C.Curnow and SOSOS, White as utility types . Good prospect but we need to start plugging holes. We need mids, another small running defender, small forward and another KPF. We can't waste picks in this draft on KPD or utility players

He played mostly defence at the champs, but he's a true tall utility at TAC level. Looks comfortable in every role he's given, including at the stoppages.

Hard to say when we have little idea of the way SOS and co see things.
Can happen but somehow I just don't see Brisbane going SPS.
Who knows, SPS barracked for Brisbane and it's only a 6 hr plane trip to Kununurra the nearest airport to Halls Creek. So the go home factor won't be an issue.

Maybe the "Go to big club in Melbourne" factor might put Brisbane off. ;)

That's all well and good if they are there but I wouldn't be stretching our opinions of a player's ability just because we need to 'plug holes'; we've been doing that for ages and the only one that has worked (so far) is Cripps.

Well and truly been converted to the Taranto fan club. Who wouldn't want a mid with great endurance, great hands, excellent entries into f50, great mark, a proven goal kicker and high poss accumulator? One of the previews I was reading likened him to a Nat Fyfe skill-set. Would be awesome to have two of them in 2018!

I don't understand why we would even consider picking Jarman.

He is a mad Crows fan, goes to all home games and his dad played for them.

If he turned out any good?

He would be back to the Crows at first opportunity.

Why waste a pick???????!

So you only want to pick blues fans,

So you only want to pick blues fans,

Nup.

But we lost Jacobs, Bell, Betts, Hendo and nearly Gibbs to the "go home" factor.

Why go down this path if we don't need to?

Last year we focussed on Melbourne/VIC boys.

I would be very happy if we did so again..

I'm not a Ridley fan. Unconvinced he fits in anywhere but defence where we don't need him.

Anyone else like Josh Begley?

Yeah I never took a second look at Ridley in the games I saw him play either. That could also mean I missed things but personally I'm not too intrigued in him as a prospect.

Knightmare in his phantom draft has Carlton taking Ridley at Pick #25

Means knightmare must rank him about the 50-55th best draft prospect...

I like him for #48 because he's a medium forward at this point.

Looking forward to the draft as is always the case, but particularly interested in what we may look for with the later picks 42, 62, 65 and maybe 69, if we choose to use it.

Can see some additional speed being taken here, but no height..... Unless Kerr?

Will be interesting. Thre is some real talent late. I'm hopeful for Lebois as one. Exciting talent with real speed and skill. Can kick a goal

Yeah appreciate the work he puts in but if he could get away with ranking Taranto at Collingwood's 2nd pick he would! :p

To be fair, we lost Jacobs because we recruited Warnock and didn't show faith in Sam.

We lost Betts due to not offering him what he was worth financially.

We lost Hendo as he wanted to have a chance at a flag.

Gibbs is still a blue.

So to me we only lost Bell to the go home factor.

My comment was just poking fun, I like the idea of predominately taking Vic kids but if you have a kid on your list rated at 30th best in the draft and he is available at pick 50 or 60 you take them. I'm not saying that's Jarman.

Jarman might be thankful for a club to give him a chance and be disappointed Adelaide did not even nominate him.

There's always been an argument in selecting the best player or the best player for the club (taking into account needs, character, discipline etc)

One thing that I haven't seen someone take into account in this argument, is.............opportunity.
The sooner that many feel as part of the elite and that their impact is important to the team, their confidence grows.....the commitment grows and the thirst for remaining part of that best 22 stays intact.

Two years in the VFL for lack of opportunity, can start sapping the confidence of many a player.....not all, but it would impact upon some.

Just a thought.

Would love Ronke good inside/outside mid with serious toe him or Bunker @42 would be awesome

It's a good point Harks, I wonder if DVR was given a senior game early in the piece if that could have helped him find a spark.
Yeah I know it wasn't "earned" but neither was Jaksch, Smith and Whiley's first games.
I remember "Slug" Jordan telling a story about watching SOS train at the Teal Cup back in the 80's and thinking that he showed nothing on the track and didn't understand the hype. That all changed when he was thrust into a competitive game and Slug knew he would be a star.
Not saying players like DVR, Gowers etc would be stars but it would have been good to see if they could step up..
