Wow zeeCFC that's a big wrapt your giving Hayward if he's remotely close to a Fyfe potential, I'll change my wish from SPS to Haywatd at pick5.
Can you please share your insights and info on Hayward didn't realise he had midfield potential.
Thanks

All star game highlights gives a slight indication of midfield potential also. They purposely put him there due to minimal minutes throughout the year and at the recruiters request.

Clayton mentioned on the RTD podcast that Gold Coast would certainly need to be tactical when picking players considering the position of other teams between their picks.

Looks like they'll do a Harry McKay to us!
Enlightening interview in some ways. The tactics really only revolved around when they'd take Bowes, which was essentially not until someone bids on him. He also stated that they were basically only looking at midfielders. Clayton also said they were searching for a mix in the type of midfielders they would take. When asked what traits they were looking for the first one that Clayton replied with was "speed", then "skill", then ....... Makes sense given that their game style has always been based around speed by both foot and ball movement. Also fair to say Ablett has made it clear this will be his last contract, with the Suns anyway.

Based on that I think they'll take SPS at #4 if he's available. Of all the mids available he's the one who's unique and the one they can't really replicate with any other pick. Given that they already have a Taranto-like player available to them in Bowes, I think their next priority would be Brodie providing SOS doesn't bid on Bowes.

Although extremely unlikely, you'd love to see Dodoro bid on Bowes just to see what GCS do. Would Tony Cochrane have Clayton's guts for garters if he didn't match the bid given recent defections???

That is my concern, we need mids but if someone like English who could be anything... but could be nothing.. falls in our lap should we take the gamble. My instinct thinks that if enough teams have passed over him then there is probably a good reason why.
Hopefully SOS goes mids with the first 2 picks. Big men take a lot longer to develop and last draft we went big men in C.Curnow, McKay, and rookied one. In this upcoming draft there isn't many KPP or ruckman but a plethora of mids. We have many deficiencies in our list currently and I think the midfield should be the priority with early picks and depending on how many picks 5 or 6 are used, then possibly use our first 3 picks on mids then worry about talls unless a kid falls at our pick which we rate highly and we predicted that he would have gone a lot earlier.
I firmly believe we need as much talent as possible running through our midfield and all developing together in the same age bracket whilst we have guys like Gibbs, Murphy and now Palmer to provide the bigger bodies and experience.

No worries. He's a great talent and the most 'Fyfe like' prospect of this draft. He's not a huge reach at 5 like most seem to think.

I still think we take SPS, Taranto or Ainsworth, but should those three be gone, I suspect he would be next on our list ahead of guys like Scrimshaw and Brodie.

I feel that McCluggage and McGrath may get a little look in @ our #5.....Don't you? :)

Absolutely if they are still there.. but both will be gone by our pick. GWS the key at 2 depending on who they choose.

I see it:
Ess - McGrath
GWS - Taranto
Bris - McLuggage
GC - SPS
GWS - match Carlton bid on Setterfield
Car - Ainsworth or Hayward

Or

Ess - McGrath
GWS - Ainsworth
Bris - McLuggage
GC - Ainsworth
GWS - match Carlton bid on Setterfield
Car - SPS

Add McGrath & McCluggage to those three and we have 5 players.....and we have pick #5 :)

I'd be surprised if we take anyone outside these guys........but I like being surprised.

I suspect we will still take at least 1 tall

Yeah not the best wording on my behalf! I was trying to suggest those three were the more genuine chances at our pick 5. Still think we take one of SPS, Taranto, Ainsworth, or Hayward. Think Hayward deserves to be mentioned in the same bracket as these guys as they are hard to split and it may come down to projection of who SOS thinks will be the best long-term prospect and not necessarily who has more runs on the board currently. Ainsworth has had a solid few years in the lead up to this draft. SPS whilst he had a down year this year, was the likely number one only a year back. Taranto a relatively later bloomer and Hayward a guy who has tricks and a real positive and natural look to his game.

I hope GWS get sanctioned this Thursday and lose their first 2 picks in the draft, this happened to Carlton. If this was to happen it would not really affect them moving forward but ensure we get a chance possibly at McCluggage and Setterfield.

Putting our own opinions aside, the looming question is....whose name will Carlton read out?

Until we hear any other solid info to the contrary, i'm assuming ep's mail is pretty spot on as usual.

Assuming McL, McG and Ainsworth are gone and GWS match our (maybe) Setterfield bid:

A plan) Petrevski-Seton is our man if he is there at our pick

If he's gone:

B plan) Hayward or Taranto

C plan) none needed

Hard to say Terry. Not much has changed for me SPS or Taranto, I would be happy with either. SOS might lean to the homegrown kid

This time last year and probably for a few years prior, we had a very good idea of the first few picks and then just joined the dots for the next few.

All Essendon has to do is to take McGrath first and things can get just a little twisted.
It will though probably find the groove and go down the natural path, but it may not.

Plus the possible GWS penalties could still play a part

They sure could but the decision should have been well and truly been made by now.

Can't see them losing the pick #2 though. The AFL couldn't do that to themselves, could they?
