Hayward is dating Sam Kerridge's sister apparently. Hopefully we don't let this be a factor in our selection

No way it would be a factor. One night stand would be a different matter, though.

Carlton loves recruiting based off one-off impressive performances (against us)....

Other way around, Kedge is dating the Hayward sister. Shame he bolted up the draft ranks so much, we could've taken him at 25 and made his transition to Melbourne a little bit easier.
no reaching!

Pickett, Marchbank, Ahern, McKenna and Steele

None proven to be duds, all still on lists and just wanted out given the rest of the talent. Injury has derailed the runs of Marchbank, Pickett and Ahern, and Steele is exactly what you'd want from pick 24... McKenna the only doubtful pick at this stage.

All fair points but the jury still has to be out over the ability of SOS to build lists given NORMAL circumstances. there is a lot of blind faith being shown by carlton supporters in him, whilst I remain open in my assessment. I am hoping that he is great at what he does , but that is yet to be proven IMO. We cant give him too much credit for the JW selection as it pretty much was a no brainer. So the spotlight necessarily goes on to Charlie and Harry. I think we could forgive SOS if Cuningham doesnt become a great player for us , as he was taken much later, but Charlie and Harry cost us dearly in the draft both in terms of picks and in terms of players traded to get those picks. The expectation should be that these two become excellent players for us.
Unfortunately the assessment has to be delayed on these two due to their sickness and injuries, but this year is Showtime, especially for charlie as Harry has a strength that is also his weakness- his height. Unfortunately (or fortunately) he has kept growing to be around 204cm which is ruck territory, yet we expect him to be a key forward. As a key forward , many of us will be expecting him to show more that just a few glimpses of promise this year , yet as a ruckmen , many would be much more forgiving. Yet he is ruckman size.
Dont get me wrong, I am genuinely excited by by our 2015 draftees , and I am equally excited by Pickett and marchbank. Pickett because he could be an outstanding player and an excitement machine, and Marchbank because he appears to be the missing link to finish off our backline, and it would be genuinely exciting to have a dominant defence again.

All this talk of the top 5-6 picks being midfielders might be wrong. If the 4 teams below us do take midfielders then that leaves us with a shot at the best kpp in the draft. Surely we can't pass up on an opportunity like that?
Then there is the scenario that a team below us takes a kkp (unlikely to be suns who have the most picks) leaving an extra choice of Grade A mid to slip through..
We could be in for a suprise.

Top 5 or 6 picks will be non KPP's

GC most likely to take a KPP in the top 10

So why don't we take the best KPP in Australia?

I agree re blind faith, something which needs to be kept in check. SOS will get time to imprint on the list and fingers crossed he can build the list we all want. There was a little too much blind faith in the people running the show in the past and it no doubt hurt the club. Keep asking questions.

Who would you say this is LO? Also, KPP or KPP-sized player?
I know we desperately need midfielders but we get 1st choice at the best young kpp in Australia if the 1st 4 taken are mids. Surely this has to be considered?

Some of my draft notes

Andrew McGrath - plays like HBF.
Extremely prolific. Best HBF in the game.

Will Hayward - plays like thylacine60
Mostly known for being forward. Burning question: Can he roll through the midfield, ffs? Chances of going at 5 not extinct.

Ben Ainsworth - plays like MEB_
Feisty, more powerful than listed height suggests

Tim English - plays like TheSheik.
Divides opinion, Is well over 196cm

Sam Petrevski-Seton - plays like KohPhi
Silky skills, floats in and out

Luke Ryan - plays like The Old Dark Navy's
Plays defence, good at mopping up. Mature ager

Cedric Cox - Plays like SBYM
A long way from Melbourne. Go home factor at play

Sam Powell-Pepper - plays like Tony Lynn 15
Lacks class, but can be effective

:(

Kevin Sheehan.

In charge of development. Keeps the kids in line. Knows how to spot talent and when to kick them out of the system.

:D

You raise an interesting point and no doubt the messiah will be looking at this closely. He does have a penchant for kpp . With the cross over between big midfielders eg cripps, fyfe, bont and the third tall types eg charlie , then the lines start to get blurred. if we snagged a third tall for the forward line, could we then re-purpose charlie into another big bodied mid? its been suggested before by others including me that charlie would be suited in the midfield especially considering his endurance

But if the best KPP in the draft isn't worth a top 5 selection you don't take him just so you can claim to have drafted the best KPP.

You're talking types though, not players.

If the best KPP in this year's draft is the 15th best player...why would we take him with pick 5?

Perhaps the top four KPP's in next years draft are all projecting to be better than the best one this year - in that scenario we'd be better off taking the best player available now, and target a KPP next year.

Key Forwards - Marshall, Battle, Kerr - The first two could very well slide to the second round, Kerr probably late second/early third.
Key Defenders - Logue, Cox, Macreadie - Logue the highest rated, but question marks as to his position. Macreadie an Academy player.
Ruckmen - English, Ratugoleo, Olango - English not a good enough pure ruckman, the others are third round project picks.

I think the issue with this, whilst logically sound in theory, is that there appears to be 4-5 KPP'S in next years draft that are better than the best of this year's class.
Marshall and Battle appear to be the best on offer this draft and will probably go between 12-25. Next year's top 10 could have 5 KPP's in it.

Some interesting points.
If last years draft top 10 was chock full of kpp and this years is full of mids that has worked out well for us. Just wish we had at least 1 more top 10-12 pick.

SPS would be a good pickup at 5.

I was a little lukewarm on him as he didn't seem to win much of the ball, even though he was a midfielder.

But reading reports on him, it seems like that might be linked with his limited tank.

So in other words, there are absolutely no questions with regards to his technical ability, effort, attitude, endeavour and work rate.

The question marks seem to be purely on both his tank and physique, two of the easiest things to fix once you enter the system.

Hope we pick up an inside midfielder at some point, hopefully a good prospect is available at 48.
