Hope so and Taranto better suits our needs as SPS is a flashy icing on the cake type pick and our cake is still far from the oven.

I think SPS is a flashy icing on the cake type pick in stereotype only.

Averaged 5+ tackles per game at WAFL level this year. That tells me he's a lot closer to a hard working midfielder than he is to a flashy footballer.

Have been hoping we got Drew for a while now! Quality inside mid from what I've seen. Very interesting that Knightmare ranks him as the 9th best prospect I believe.
Did check his twitter the other day and Carlton was the only club he was following... in saying that, the account hasn't been used for a few years, may be a Carlton fan?

Everyone seems to want or is happy with what the mocks have in regards to us taking SPS and i hope i am wrong but i have my doubts on this kid.

As always he will be welcomed with open arms IF we draft him and it is what it is.

That's not true; for his size and shape SPS wins plenty of contested ball and is very effective around the stoppages. His ability to win clearances and use his pace to break away from packs makes the Burgoyne comparison even more resounding.

It's a big call. Burgoyne has a lot of size on SPS and is arguably the best clearence player in the AFL.

He's the best player in the draft but its those preconceived thoughts that well have us take him at five.. and if it happens ,I love it! Stereotypes and tin foil hats are gold

181cm or 5ft 10 ish and 76kg is tiny these days in regards to AFL footballers heights for Mids.

WAFL level and AFL level cannot be compared and i see taking him with our high 1st rd pick is to dangerous.

Yeah I like Drew with our second pick, would compliment SPS nicely as a bigger bodied mid. Kerr with our third as well would be a nice mix.

I'm talking more about the smarts, but give him a few pre-seasons and SPS will have the body shape to do some serious damage. I wouldn't call Burgoyne the best either, but he wins crucial clearances in big moments - Another parallel with SPS.

Not if you're good enough.

Inside and outside mid? What did Trigg say we wanted?

That's 5'11'', basically Hannebery sized.

It's hardly a tin foil hat scenario to not see something in a player that others do. I happen to think all the 'he'll leave the club as soon as his contract is up' talk is just a way to deal with not knowing what to make of a player who hasn't quite come on the way people thought he might.

So size DOES matter to you?

In regards to Mids yep and look at Bonts and Cripps as they monster opponents.

In the last 20 years how many Mids drafted in the Top 10 have been under 6ft and then gone on to have respectable careers and play over 100 games for the club that drafted them??

You could count them on 1 hand and i am not saying SPS cannot play at all but there are to many negatives surrounding him and in such an even draft which is crucial to us as he is the most likely BUST candidate of the Top 10 who will most likely go on to be a WAFL star but a step below AFL level.

Just tackling and being able to apply pressure in the WAFL does not ensure you will be successful in the AFL ranks and if the 187cm Mid Taranto is on the board coming off 30 possies in a grand final win coupled with excellent overhead marking ( maybe the best in the draft for the Mids ) come our pick i will be shattered if we take SPS over him, but this is just personal opinion and each to their own.

The amount of very good mids in the AFL who are that height or shorter is huge, look at Treloar, Shiel etc. Bulldogs also have a hell of a lot of small mids who use quick hands to the advantage of their teammates. SPS would be a great selection as a playmaker for us, we can get a more solid inside player with our second.
