Not this year, One of the best drafts for years and it bats deep. 13 can get a top line 200 plus game mid. It just what type do we get. a Tall mid, small mid, inside, outside, fast, best kick, natural footballer, ready to go. etc.
Way it looking with this draft a Jack Graham type will be available with pick 43,
The best proven mids will be gone by pick 8 or 9

A Venables or a Berry is more likely . Good players with good potential but not in the top bracket of this draft - may turn out to be better players later

I don't know why people make claims like this with any degree of confidence. There's been plenty of "this is best draft since 2001" claims in recent years which invariably turns out to be garbage.
Because at this time of year the talent is out there for all to see and they have had a year to look at it, and yes not one person in the media and experts in this field are saying anything other than this is the best draft for mids in years and some are saying the best in the AFL history.
So sometimes we have to listen to there views and believe.

They say that about every second year.

Hamish Ogilvie is one of the best recruiters if not the best in the AFL, and every year the Crows have to fight of offers to him being poached,
I will put my trust into him to get the right player, even at 43 and hopefully 53 if all goes well with Jarman. The thing I want is to get Jarman at 67 and use 89 on ROB
That will be 1 very good mid, 2 good mids with potential and a possible tall.
I wasn't knocking his record or even mentioned him?o_O He's been great. All in all, in the end your future 200 game playing mid statement was speculative. Which I pointed out.

From the videos he looks to have a very poor kick. We don't need any more of them.
Only watched him a few times he did hit the target more than miss, but remember he an inside mid and in under pressure when releasing the ball, in the open he hits targets, but what I was getting at is a player with his ability to hunt the cod and win it at 43.

Turn that into the best Vic, SA or WA mids will be gone at picks 8-9 and its a different picture.

Most of the 1st round trade we have had in recent times with Hamish barring injury will be 200 game players, problem has been keeping them.

Most now? How many has he had again? Lever and Milera?

No they don't they have been very critical of the draft in recent years, and you rarely hear the word bats deep.
Players from deep picks come out the other end though, every year. It's highly speculative. For thirty years I've seen application and determination trump skill. Flashy Juniors are just as much of a bust.

Jarrod Berry for me.

But trust Ogilvie's judgemental. Drafting has been our best area. Best in the league IMO.

Yeah his bum fits the seat. Seems to be most linked to a bigger role elsewhere. Maybe let him be Reids boss.

What about Cal Twomey's comment four days ago? Next year's draft is apparently stronger than this year's.
It was interesting listening to Jason Cripps the other night. They have people looking 2-3 years into the future and trying to spot the talent early enough ie making up drafts based on now and future.

He was the our east coast and Vic agent, has had a hand in the pie on the Vic side since 2007. In the same as you can credit Milera with Phil Dunn,
You aren't answering the question? What picks has he presided over? Lever and Milera isn't it?

Its the evenness of this year draft added to the depth. that make it one of the best for mids. meaning there will be diamond in the rough to right team.
Any team that get a top 20 that does not perform in this year draft only has it self to blame, Yes there will be some that don't get a chance ie GWS,

Ports pick swapping was good then as I expected. Probs get Hayward, where we won't be able to secure with a second.

So port go on a recruiting spree getting the missing pieces in Ryder and then Dixon last year, and now have traded out next years first and downgraded their pick 9 to get four top 31 picks this year.

So are they going for the flag or rebuilding?
Interesting question. I think they've realised that they made a mistake by thinking they were close to premiership and trading away all those first round picks, that they're now trying to fix it via quantity rather than quality. When you think about it, by trading away three years worth of firsts they effectively handicapped themselves in their ability to find talent for their long-term future, and they weren't able to make up for that loss through good recruiting in the later rounds.

Contrast this with ourselves during our period of draft sanctions and you can see just how much of a storm we were able to weather by being smart and lucky enough to find guys like Laird, Hartigan and Atkins with late picks. Factor in the tough decision to let go of Vince that allowed us to get Matt Crouch and that's four best 22 players with a lot of football ahead of them. If not for these we might have found ourselves in a similar situation to Port where we'd have to trade out pick 13 for multiple later picks.
