You are right Marshall and English will go much earlier than what I have then in my order so this helps create more midfield options with 13

Thanks this is exactly what I was alluding too that if for example if 3 clubs go for KPP then we basically get a top 10 u18 mid across Australia.

The only way it will bite them on the bum if they have a shocker next year and we pick a Patrick Cripps at 13.

But 4 picks in the top 31 in a very strong draft will set them up in about 3 years when all their better players go.

It was creative and something I was advocating us doing but we got stuck in the Gibbs mess.
I agree, I don't mind the plan to go to the draft this year as this seems to be a deep and even crop of players, but if that's the plan go to the draft hard, try and trade out some fringe players, try and upgrade some picks, be creative and use next years first to try and get another couple of early picks this year, but we've done nothing for next year or for 3-4 years time.

So frustrating it feels like such a huge opportunity missed.

Will GWS and Gold Coast bid on each others academy players to make them give up more points?

Wish we could get Taranto, think Port will be kicking themselves if he's there at 9.... can't believe he could end up at Sydney and make their mids even better, straight in Mitchell's old place.

As much this pains me to say this, they're so damn good at this recruiting thing.

Thoughts on Vanables?
I have not seen him play stiffy so cannot make a call on him. I do trust in Hamish however so I am sure he will pick wisely. He does love his defenders though

What I do know is that the young guns game at punt road Indicated that there is a lot of talent available in the midfield. Hayward as a local boy really impressed me in this game. Loved the speed of Bolton too. I do enjoy the speed creativity and talent of Simpkin. He is a gun. He would be a wonderful get for us. Witherden is a talent and isnaneeallyngod mover on the field

Who I feel are realistic options at Pick 13 and I'd favour unless there are surprise sliders....Jarrod Berry, Oliver Florent [Go home factor?], Daniel Venables, Jy Simpkin, Sam Powell Pepper, Jordan Ridley, Jordan Gulluci, Kobe Mutch, Josh Battle, Jack Scrimshaw would all sit well enough with me. Would not be overly surprised if we pulled the trigger should Todd Marshall still be on the table, will take time but projects to be a very good KPF with further development.

For the "speculative" picks 43, 53, 67 etc, obviously any from my big board that fell through and players I've liked throughout the year most of who I feel will still be available [Ben Jarman], Myles Poholke, Ben Ronke, Pat Lipinski, Callan Wellings, Jake Pitman, Reece Piper, Zac Fisher, Mitch McCarthy, Sam Walker,Tyson Stengle, Jamie Hampton, Jackson Lee, Matt Geulfi, Kym LeBois, Michael Signorello.

Agree re Marshall - wouldn't surprise me at all - imagine the melts on here !!!

I wouldn't be disappointed for long term at least

Players from deep picks come out the other end though, every year. It's highly speculative. For thirty years I've seen application and determination trump skill. Flashy Juniors are just as much of a bust.
Tom Papley anyone ??

Supposed to be a stinker draft with 25 good players tops and the 100 ish picked ( in rookie draft ) is Tom Papley who dominates finals in his first season

The best proven mids will be gone by pick 8 or 9

A Venables or a Berry is more likely . Good players with good potential but not in the top bracket of this draft - may turn out to be better players later
Not sure on this ......there's the clear junior talents that sometimes reach potential early .....then there's the Dangerfields who have some rough edges, played in non prominent roles, and have a greater hunger than those that have dominated juniors

The Academy kids will elevate us to getting a pretty good kid this year

He's more like Brad than Matt

Has that same burst speed , better up forward however and not as consistent in midfield
This will change when he develops a tank

Agree that there is a heap of very promising, but more speculative picks this year, would be happy with getting any of the guys you have said there. Stengle, Poholke, Piper, Fisher, Walker, Wellings, Ronke the names that stand out for me there on that list.

I think Reid on SEN last night pretty much confirmed that we will be picking a midfielder with pick 13 this year. I am very confident that whoever we pick up at 13 will be a quality player for us long term. Might even play some games in his first year.

I think pick 43 will be a lot more interesting for us. That's where Hamish will need to earn his money especially considering we game up Lyons for that pick.
Depends on which pick we'll need to use on Jarman ......expect us to take a project Ruck / KPP

That's exactly what I'm saying WW

The best products at this point will be gone by 9 but not necessarily the best long term players

I am not sold on what I have seen of Venables, seems a bit too much like another Matt Crouch to me.
Yeah, i need to see a bit more of venables .....but first impression, i tend to agree

He will just not to us
- thankfully !!!
Happy to stick my flag in the sand on the fact he won't go first round
English is

1. Painfully thin - no core strength
2. Will take 5 years to develop, if he does
3. Poor hands

He's just a midfielder that had a growth spurt .....does not make him anything like a sure bet AFL ruckman .....and a team is going to wait 5 years, ala Cordy? ......nope
