Looks like a typical man-child IMO. Dominates against skinny 18 year olds but can he do that against men?
Have always found that an odd argument, do you not pick big players because they're big?

But he played a good chunk of the season in the WAFL against men, so I guess that answers your question.

From those highlights I like the break away pace. Like I said he is no Charlie but he is quick. Shrugs tackles on quite a few occasions there a bit like Shuey. He goes in hard but has ourside game and a bit of pace. Far from a finished product but in our development program he will develop into one hell of a player.
That's Venables biggest problem , all he has been to now is just a highlights reel, lack of production and goes missing too often.

How does that work?

Clubs with academy picks early bundle picks from 20s, 30s, 40s together to equal enough points to match bids.

Those bundled picks disappear from the order.

Pick 43 comes in a bit.

I don't buy for a second that it will actually be pick 37. I'll say 41. You have to bear in mind that 13 becomes 18 etc before these later picks start "coming in".

Reid really comes off as a moron to me. I'm sure he was a good player manager. He's clearly in over his head when it comes to list management and negotiation though.

You may well be right. The stereotype is the guy who is an early developer so is always 10cm and 10kg bigger than the other kids. As such he dominates under age footy due to size but that dominance gets trimmed way back at AFL level. Not saying it's a hard and fast rule- just something to consider.

Dream draft scenario :

Pick 13: Oliver Florent

Pick 43: Jack Graham

Pick 53: Jonty Scharenberg

Pick 67: Myles Poholke

Pick 89: Ben Jarman

I'm familiar with the argument, just don't feel it holds much weight. There's always going to be size differences in players at whatever level. He's hardly a monster and was an elite junior rower, only committed to the game full time in recent years, so you think there'd be plenty of improvement to come. Also, his big tick at the moment is his athleticism, not his bulk.

Have never seen him in the flesh though but in videos seems to find targets. Our midfield has generally been a bit undersized and like the flexibility of a guy who can play anywhere.

I don't really have an issue with that. A lot of the great players were similar as juniors and early in their careers. Both Ablett Jnr and Dangerfield took about 5 years in the system before they started getting more than about 15 touches a game. But what they did was special.

If the kid can do amazing things, it's only going take some time before he's doing them regularly.

Gonna need to change those sheets. ;)

I quite fancy Jordan Sweet as a recruit also,.. wouldn't mind if we nabbed him with the intention of playing him for a couple years in the reserves,. increase our depth at Ruck.. and he is a South Australian :)

I agree, I don't mind the plan to go to the draft this year as this seems to be a deep and even crop of players, but if that's the plan go to the draft hard, try and trade out some fringe players, try and upgrade some picks, be creative and use next years first to try and get another couple of early picks this year, but we've done nothing for next year or for 3-4 years time.

So frustrating it feels like such a huge opportunity missed.
Roo replied to one of my tweets saying they really rate next year's draft and particularly because there are quite a few good SA boys.
Now I think they'd consider trading the 2017 1st or 2nd round for the right player but probably didn't want to trade one of those picks to accumulate more picks this year.

Well it happened last year. Port's pick they used to get Riley Bonner came in a long way. That said it could be slightly differently this year as they'be made slight changes to the academy club's being allowed to trade endless picks to make up the points. So last year they probably had more picks in 20s/30s/40s etc.

Whoever we aim to get at Pick 13, the Club will announce that "We got our man and expected him to go much higher in the draft, he is going to be a great player for the AFC".

Highly doubt it ......have a look at one of my early favourites ......Allison, an Academy player that could be taken earlier

Brisbane academy, so he will very likely be going there (unless Bris surprisingly doesn't bid).

FTR I don't think using a first on Simpkin is the wisest thing to do
