Maybe? ......but IMO he has the biggest upside of all our Rookies .....if i was the club, i'd see how both players progressed / developed over the pre-season ......but the club won't have that luxury, as it will need to upgrade a rookie or go to the draft within 16 days .....Damn!
No he hasn't. 2nd period opens today.. I really hope we give a player a chanceHas Clem Smith found a home yet? I was interested in him during his draft but haven't really followed his career. I know he's a WA lad with pace. Might be worth a crack on the rookie list

We play him on the wing a lot in the SANFL, so I guess that's where they'll see him in the AFL. Speed would be my only worry there. I think having a guy of his size and marking ability would be a plus though. The question is that we don't need a permanent medium forward .......we need a forward who can go thru the midfield ......does Beech have enough midfield nous, tricks, and pace?
According to Vader list lodgement for rookie upgrades was two weeks ago when we added O'Brien and re-contratced Beech, Greenwood, Keath to the Rookie list. So it appears we are looking at using that pick 89 or going to the pre-season draft or playing one short on the list
.
West AdelaideKnow exactly what your saying ......but never understood picking up rookies that have been overlooked in the National draft ......it still puzzles me?Rookies have saved our arse, look in the Top 22 who were rookies JJ, Hartigan, Cameron, Jacobs, Laird
Think I might be more interested in the Rookie draft than the National
West AdelaideBeech won't replace Atkins, Seedsman, Cameron, or Milera as potential wingmen this year ......and sorry, i forgot Knight as wellWe play him on the wing a lot in the SANFL, so I guess that's where they'll see him in the AFL. I am of the opinion that you only upgrade rookies if and when you need to, for instance their allowed time on the rookie list is up or they have received an offer from another club and we need to upgrade the player in order to keep him. I understand why you would want to have flexibility with the rookie list given that we have 3 rookie listed players who have genuine claims to be playing in round 1 and we are going to be chasing a premiership next season. But by passing with our late draft pick(s) in favour of the rookie draft we are foregoing drafting more highly rated players. I think that we should be aiming to maximise the amount of talent on our combined list and only upgrading a rookie if he is clearly best 22 (which none are) or the remaining draftees are not draftable (which sounds unlikely this year).I would like to see us have a 38/6/2 combination or 39/5/2. This would leave a spot or 2 available to upgrade one or more rookies if their form demands this. I do not see any value in selecting a 25 years + recycled player. Loading up with rookies also provides more flexibility for next year's trade and draft period. We can afford to take a longer term approach with our draft picks although I would like to see our pick 13 (or is it 16) get a taste next year.
That could easily happen and happens every yearSEN are saying Carlton could take Will Hayward at pick 5, yet he's said to be a player that we aren't even keen on if he is still available at pick 13.
Imagine if Carlton take a kid with pick 5 that they could have taken with pick 13.

The draft ends up so much different to the phantoms
Guys like doedee for example
Hayward wasn't thought of in 1st round calculations until he dominated some finals , played well in all stars game then ran a 2.93 sec 20m sprint at combine
He could easily go top 5 , there will be others eg perhaps Brodie will be available at 13 and we may not take him
Different type of player obviously, but I'm getting a massive Clayton Oliver vibe about Hayward.SEN are saying Carlton could take Will Hayward at pick 5, yet he's said to be a player that we aren't even keen on if he is still available at pick 13.

Clayton Oliver was a mid 20's pick for the majority of the year until Melbourne took him top 5.It didnt last year the Phantoms were spot on up until Doedee at 17
Hayward might have a future "go home" factorSEN are saying Carlton could take Will Hayward at pick 5, yet he's said to be a player that we aren't even keen on if he is still available at pick 13.

I agree and Port the most likely. At this stage, I'm predicting 30-40 for Jonty. Is the type that may slide, though

Nah if he's to make it, it'll have to be as a forward / mid ......or potentially as a HB

Danger in Texas
Hope this is not that Brad Crouch type injury, sounds suspiciously like it might be because he did the medical testing during the recent Combine yet the clubs are requesting another look??

Possible top-20 pick Alex Witherden will also attend after being sidelined by a broken leg since May, while Daniel Venables' foot injury late in the season has seen some clubs ask for him to attend to get an update.
I reckon it's something clubs would definitely want to be cautious of, given how severe some foot injuries can be (particularly re-occurences of them), however I wouldn't read a heap into it at this stage.Danger in Texas

West AdelaideI just have a query on his pace ? .......is he slow or average pace?Yeah, I find it hard to see where Beech fits in, but he appears to be well liked by the coaching group for his playing ability. Maybe I just haven't seen it yet.
