Stosur chokes again! It never ceases to amaze me how mentally weak she is as a player.

How do players reach a ranking as high as she has and still don't have the mental side of it more under control. I don't get it

We needed to win one of those two matches today, will be a miracle if we win this tie now.

I really don't how she even managed to win a Grand Slam years ago, I am surprised she didnt choke in that final.

Dasha v Keys was always going to be a tough one. But Sam should've won today

Italy (Schiavone and Vinci) getting their ass handed to them by Spain (Muguruza and CSN) while Giorgi is 1 step closer to qualifying for Stuttgart.

Been out all morning and only been able to check the scores a couple of times, is this a repeat of yesterday's match, Sam winning the first set and not being able to go on with it? :straining: And why no Keys? Americans must be confident of winning.

Poor Stosur though, she was so upset after her final match. She's really the only female player we have, the others are below average. Dasha was playing with momentum during the Australian Open and since then she's struggled.

We need more depth in the women's tennis instead of relying on one player.

Was she? Poor Sam :( (I just couldn't watch the end of it, switched over to watch Box Hill). You're right, it shouldn't just be up to her and there was extra pressure on her with the clay surface and having it in Brisbane. Would have been better for Sam if it was an away tie (like the last one). Pressure on Gavrilova too, being her first chance to play for Australia. I really don't think Rodianova is going to amount to anything as a player, I would rather one of our younger players get a go. I thought Birrell did OK in the last tie (dead rubber though). Jarmila Wolfe is also ranked higher than Rodianova, not sure why she is being overlooked, she at least has the chance to win when she is on, have never really seen Rodianova do anything special. And please no clay next time, it's un-Australian :D ;)

I was watching the final set and Sam had her chances towards the end but she makes too many errors at crucial points. I did feel bad for her in the end, she looked so upset. The pressure was too much for her to win the tie.

No idea, why Rodianova is in the team she isnt that good.

Dasha might perform better next time Aust plays in the Fed Cup. In the end, USA had a good team.

Here's your answer:

Tennis Australia spent $100,000 on installing a temporary Italian clay court at the southern Brisbane venue to provide Stosur and Daria Gavrilova with an advantage by playing on their preferred surface.

So Keys was injured, that at least explains why she did not play today. Since when has clay been Dasha's preferred surface? I thought she looked at a distinct disadvantage on it against Keys.

All over. Very convincing by the Americans all weekend.
Have to feel sorry for crowd didn't get their value for money today.
What happens now for Australia..are we relegated to another level or something?

Lol I didn't know clay was Dasha's surface.. That was one expensive court..

The whole thing has been embarrassing :$ Nearly as bad as the Davis Cup debacle.

It must suck to be a female tennis player particularly in this country. That Davis Cup tie got way more press coverage and if not for Sharapova's drug-test-failing announcement, the fallout would've been bigger and more lasting especially because of the Bernie-Nick feud that ensued.

I watched Offsiders (ABC) and there wasn't even so much of a 5 second bit about the current Fed Cup tie. Very Disappointing

It's a shame because while Sam is not as marketable in the same way as those foreign pinup girls are, and she continually gets pushed aside in favour of the men ala Hewitt, Tomic and now Kyrgios, she does come across as a genuine, pleasant person. Also (as been stated previously in a different thread) her best tennis has generally been in the events that our media barely give 2 shits about e.g. French and US Open.

Pressure on Gavrilova too, being her first chance to play for Australia.

Yeah I don't know about this. I get that representing this country in tennis can be underestimated because of our history in the sport and how our media goes into dickhead mode about it, but Dasha is 22, has lived here for years (thanks to her BF, Luke Saville, one of Australia's great men's tennis players :D) and was officially unleashed onto the Aussie public during the most recent Summer of Tennis. The response was very positive, she accounted for herself really well and she was relishing every moment saying all the right things etc... Then the loss to CSN happened and it's been all downhill from there.

I really don't think Rodianova is going to amount to anything as a player, <snip!>. have never really seen Rodianova do anything special.

She got married to Tyrone Vickery. That's speshal (Hi Bruce). He's quite a catch I've heard :p.

She is 26 and is at best a prolific ITF doubles player. Maybe focus on getting Wolfe, Barty, Birrell and Bai up to speed.

You mean we need more imports :p

In the end, USA had a good team.

Which is always possible when you have great depth.

Lol I didn't know clay was Dasha's surface..

Yeah, bullshit it is. This 'factoid' is probably based on Dasha's appearance in Rome last year. It was a hell of a run by first qualifying and then beating Bencic, Ivanovic, Bacsinszky, C McHale before losing to Sharapova in the final.

Mchale would have probably beaten Dasha on current form. The clay was smart idea, but the US were too strong. Keys does not like the clay as much as a consistent hardcourt. Stosur should have beaten Mchale, but that was always going to be close. either way, i do feel sorry for Stosur. she had to win both games for us to stand a chance.

I think BMS is the best womens doubles player on the tour atm. Unlike Hingis, she has the power to complete. was really impressed with her in the dead rubber doubles match. Think Coco and her are a great chance to win the doubles at Rio.
