I would much rather see the Bulldogs win a flag when compared to the other teams left in the running.

A flag would mean so much to the Bulldogs and their long suffering fans. They've been starved of success and suffered some tough finals losses over the last20 years. They aren't a power club like Collingwood, Essendon etc and certainly haven't had the success that Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney have.

To me Bulldogs versus GSW is good vs evil....th fans vs the AfL Executive and their corporate shills.

Imagine if GWS win it (and its only a matter of time before they do) and first round of the new season they have a half empty home stadium. Or would the AFL bus people in to make it look full?

They'll schedule in a home game against sydney to ensure a full stadium. Guaranteed

Finally someone on the MB put up a summary of how much extra stuff GWS got compared to GC. Really shits me how many people actually believe that they were given pretty much the same.
Yep, that report was posted on Reddit about a month ago and is pretty damn telling

Surprised it took this long to be posted here but someone redid the format on reddit that was much easier on the eyes, if i find it I will post it here.

Stevic & Nicholls are umpiring this week, Hawks will definitely win.

In other news, How Luke Farmer gets a final is utterly beyond me.
You must be a fan of Dean Margetts as he is about one of the only experienced guys to not be umpiring in the major finals from last week onwards.@salim malik for info salim

Thought i might post this article as it dont think it reaches you guys in perth. Its a very good one and sums up the GWS giants here in sydney.

The AFL from the start were arrogant about the way they went about introducing the giants from the start by thinking they were going to take down league and own western sydney and it pissed off a lot people here.

It should be noted though that Roy Masters is a rugby man and a noted hater of AFL. It's a bit like quoting Hagdorn in a Freo vs eagles argument.

Having said that, I agree with some of his sentiment, but some parts of that article struck me as meaningless cheap shots. For instance:

The AFL's born-to-rule arrogance was obvious when it decided to start a second team in Sydney, assuming Blacktown is the heart of what they call Greater Western Sydney.

The western suburbs region of Sydney is a vast, amorphous urban landscape, with multiple nodes.

Sure, Blacktown is midway between Penrith and Parramatta but what about Lidcombe, Liverpool, Campbelltown, the Blue Mountains and the rich vein of playing talent in the south west corridor, together with potential season ticket holders in the upper middle class suburbs of the Hills district.

What's his point exactly? He himself admits Western Sydney is an amorphous landscape with multiple nodes, but the AFL had to pick somewhere to base the team initially. Were they supposed to start a team in every suburb in Western Sydney to cover off every base?

Were the AFL arrogant in introducing Freo because 'what about the rich vein of talent in the Swan Districts area?' Makes about as much sense.

Tbh Western Sydney Wanderers just swooped in and took the fans. Only established within 6 months too. It's the wrong demographic, it's mostly the multi cultural population with low socioeconomic status. Tough to breakthrough , especially with many kids' heroes in the area more Ronaldo/Messi/Neymar instead of Ablett/Fyfe/Nicnat. Also Afl these is quite expensive to attend so can imagine why Wanderers were traditionally appealing.

I know we give them a lot of shit for having two and a half fans and whatnot but apparently less than half of GWS fans allocated seats were/have been sold. They are legitimately going to have under 7/8k fans at their maiden prelim. Strewth.

Won't be long and they'll have more premierships than supporters

I said after they won the QF that something like this wouldn't surprise me at all given how expensive Prelim tickets are.

I'm amazed at how many West Coast supporters seem to 'not mind' to even like GWS as if they are sticking it up the Vics or something? Are they in denial about how strong the Giants will likely be and overrating your list that needs serious work to challenge again? I honestly can't see either of the WA sides getting near a flag in the next 6+ years.

I've seen Freo supporters doing the same thing - although I suspect the resentment from Freo towards GWS winning a flag might be a little greater because you haven't got one yet and the massive disparity in the startup concessions the giants received compared to yours

It's only just starting to dawn on people just how strong the giants are becoming and how the structure of their list is such that they will maintain a strong position in drafts for many years to come to the point where I think even the AFL will be shitting bricks behind closed doors at what they've created.

If they win tomorrow and make a GF and then go to the 2016 draft with 4 1st round picks (they already have 3 and will get another for Marchbank) there's going to be some cranky supporters about the place

I've noticed quite a few WA people saying they're behind the Giants because they aren't Victorian or because it's good to see someone different doing well. I just laugh and tell them that in 5 years time they will be desperate for someone that's not GWS to win a flag.

Really is criminal the sorts of concessions that GWS has been given. Its very doubtful that a sustained period of success by GWS will actually do anything to grow the game in NSW in the long term. You could hardly say that the Brisbane Lions' three peat has grown the game in Queensland.

Part of me thinks that at least if GWS do win this year then corrective action may be taken sooner rather than later. As much as we all can't stand Eddie, at least we know he'll be kicking us a massive fuss about it in the public forum.

I think the AFL would love a 10 year GWS dynasty. It's going to be up to the bigger clubs to throw their weight around to curtail this monster before it gets out of control.

With grubby Allen at Collingwood now they are well placed to be a beneficiary of the Giants players that want out so Eddie might not be as outspoken

Also aside from the academy players there's not much the AFL can do with GWS now although taking the Riverina out of their zone would be a start

They could reduced their extra cap and player list earlier than they planned too.
