2016 Finals Venues

Sportscover arena is NOT a preferred venue for Premier clubs as the council, Bayside, has neglected the condition of the surface rather preferring to spend millions on Hurlingham park (East Brighton SFL) where the club is in a financial mess.(East Brighton owe player payments from 2015.) Elsternwick Park is a tiny appendix of Bayside council and frankly a poor political area. No votes in trees and dog poo! The sooner the VAFA vacate this wasteland the better. That means they must relinquish the umpires rooms that they built. Like that's gonna happen any time soon.

Simple solution for the first week of finals [when there are more finals games than venues forcing Sat/Sun games] is to let the higher ranked team host the final at their ground. This would only be for the lower divisions where attendances in the semis are not that large so VAFA not missing out on huge income. VAFA could charge the club $500/$1000 hosting fee? VAFA would not have to pay a neutral ground hire fee or for gate attendants! No worrying about team lists. Big Footy posters would not have to jump the fence that week etc. Most clubs would jump at the opportunity.
Frees up other grounds so all finals played on a Saturday. Too easy.

Cmon mate, the finals have just snuck up, mad an the annual seemingly disorganised rush to fit grounds about to start. Clubs not informed to later in week.

Sorry, would have to disagree. Let's look at Div 4, although from your comments above, the 'lower divisions' are irrelevant. 1st semi would be played at Eley Park, the size of a postage stamp.
Your suggestion that all finals be played on a Saturday also does not work in the lower divisions. As you stated above, attendance is low, but will be even lower if all finals on Saturday. Again take Div 4. Both Eley Park & Point Cook have both teams in finals, one in 2nd Semi & one in 1st Semi. In the lower divisions, most helpers assist with both Seniors & Reserves, Coaching Staff, Team Manager, Trainers etc, If they were playing on same day at different grounds it will cause huge issues and crowds will be even lower as there team mates will be unable to be there to support them

Indeed it would pose more problems than it solves.

Imagine a final at Old Westbourne? Hard enough to get to even for locals like myself, parking is embarrassing and public transport access is via a bus that is still some walking distance from the ground anyway. Rooms aren't the biggest either.

If this model was followed - here's the first week venues from D1-D4:

D1 - Old Mentonians - Highett Reserve and PEGS - School Ovals at Keilor Park
D2 - St. Johns - Doveton and Preston - Ruthven Oval
D3 - Hawthorn - St, James Park, Latrobe University - Main Oval and UHS-VU - Brens Oval.

Outside of PEGS, all are community ovals, so costs of fencing for parking and payment become an issue. Latrobe uni has a huge advantage on playing on such a huge oval for home games too.

This week:

Division 1 - Sportscover Arena (Sat) and Craigieburn (Sun)
Division 2 - Trevor Barker (Sat) and Whitefriars (wtf?) (Sun)
Division 3 - Westbourne (?) (Sat) and Paradians (again?) (Sat)
Division 4 - St. Bernards 1 (fair enough) (Sat) and St. Bernards 2 (really?) (Sat)
Under 19s (all Sunday) - Premier Sportscover and Dairy Bell; Under 19 2 down - TBA.

Great to see one of the best grounds in the Ammo finally rewarded with a finals match, been trying for a couple of years...

Sportscover arena is the VAFA's issue and we know they have let the situation slip over many years. In regards to your comment about Hurlingham Park, you need to do your homework a bit better. Hurlingham has been on the waiting list for nearly 5 years or more for an upgrade, it houses the EBFNC [ SENIORS ] EBJFC [ Juniors ] and the BUCC which has over 180 members both seniors and juniors, milo and 20/20 blast and operates 7 days a week through cricket season. Hurlingham is ranked the City of Bayside's 2nd most rated ground behind that bog heap of an oval at Brighton Beach on which council couldn't even get the ground right after spending millions on a turf upgrade. Also, as far as EBFNC seniors owing player payments, what has that got to do with discussions on facilities.

The umpires themselves built those rooms..wasn't much coming from HQ. Also has better views of the ground and the umpires are losing revenue from it not being used on Premier Grand Final day for the brunch!

To fix the venue is very simple to me.

Get rid of the turf on both grounds and replace it all completely. Umpires have other venues they train at (e.g. Westbourne).
Build a new headquarters (the old one is 35 years old in current form).
Get the best possible scoreboard too (current one is 31 years old)

whats the issue with whitefriars being the ground?
And i like the St. Bernards idea, makes it easier for the limited number of volunteers both clubs would have

Bit of a hike for most people, same as Westbourne in that regard.

Some grounds we know are unavailable.

Parkdale or Scammell Sunday?

Looks like C Grade will be played at Peninsula as St.Bernards not available.

In reality probably end up at Casey or Cranbourne.

Who knows.

Nothing wrong with Westbourne as a Venue mate. Rooms are fine Div 3 played on the weekend and zero negativity on here. Has about 200 parking spots including inside the secure school grounds. New station less than a 1km away. Fully enclosed Grandstand with behind Glass viewing. Let us know when you are coming we can roll out the red Carpet. Us humble 4 Division clubs sometimes forget our place amongst the elite.

Just been advised the the semi final v Peninsula will be on Sunday 4 September at the Box Hill Oval 2.10pm
Much more sensible. One has to ask the question as why it was programmed for the Snakepit in the first place when the ground wasn't available. That's quite apart from the boneheadedness of expecting Peninsula to travel that distance.

The VAFA is at risk of becoming a laughing stock.

Lets see if Premier C can get a beer at St Bernards after their game. Good Luck on oval 1 ground great cricket pitch rock hard most of the players look like they have been in an accident.

Then you have Willy and Ormond playing in the 2's and 19's on separate days are different venue's and the 19's game they had at the start was SKOBS and DLS 2nds, why not just put the Willy- Monds 19's on first. They are a joke, no common sense.

The back ground was worse with the synthetic pitch
