This really is in general a myth though. Sure, his disposal limits his score, but most of the times when he hasn't made a 100 with good disposal numbers (say, 30+) he has been in a flogged team.

To what do you attribute his reduction in scoring in an improving and winning team?

Still a little up and down. Played some very good games early in the year where he didn't break the tonne. Maybe he could push 105, but imo last year was him at his full potential.

Who are you talking about?

I thought it was Mitch but he certainly didn't play finals

Edit: my bad just realized it was the stats for Missy

Greene has history of scoring like a premium, Hall has history of scoring like a timid forward pocket.

The last half of last year's season and this year's pre season contradict that claim. Hall has been playing very good footy for a while. With key injuries it doesn't look like he'll lose the opportunity to continue that effort.

2013 (primary midfield): played 21 games for 110 ave.
2014 (primary midfield): played 17 games for 111.7 ave.
2015 (primary forward): played 22 games for 93.2 ave.

Listed as a forward with more focus midfield this year again - yeah, I'm with you on this one...

Average when Fyfe played last year ~91

surely he only gets more midfield if Fyfe doesn't. Freo midfield with Sandi, Fyfe, Mundy AND Barlow is slower than the ice age. Barlow's strength in clearances is second fiddle to Fyfe.

Much riskier pick than being portrayed around here.

Any pick has risk attached but the risk with Barlow is pretty low. Unless he gets injured his worse case should be an average around the same as last year which would be just about bearable for a Forward keeper. And best case he is number 1 for his position.

Much bigger risk if you start without him IMHO

Can't believe the lack of love for Montagna.
For all the gushing over Shaw as a lock and finishing as a top 6 mid, there's more reason to gush over Montagna and he's just as definite as Shaw to finish as a top 6 forward, but you don't hear a word about him. It's weird.

Your thoughts on Higgins if selected

I think last year was his peak SC-scoring wise. In addition to that belief of mine, he's also had an interrupted pre-season so I personally haven't considered him at all.

Thats what my st kilda mate said, not true?
Your mate is incorrect, in a way. Was managed all preseason but he started it early after his injury last year. TBH Saints dont screw around with our players in preseason, they seem to know what they are doing, Steven last year, Billings this year, so I would be confident in the work he has done. Was definitely managed though in a way that has had him primed towards Round 1.

I didn't believe it when I read it but Suban attended the 4th most centre clearances last year ahead of Barlow!!

AT the very least this should change. I'm hoping Subes successfully transitions to Peel Thunder's midfield this year.

Taking out Barlow and bringing in Robinson so I don't have the same feckin team as everyone else

Thoughts on Robinson's role this year?
Midfield to start with, what happens when Beams is back?

Think he could be a good pick this year. Seems to be loving Brissy and has matured somewhat from the few interviews I've seen him in.

I'm assuming you said top 6 mid when you meant top 6 def.

The reason montagna isn't as 'must have' as heater is because there are a lot more genuine premo options up forward than there are down back.

It would really take something out of the box for any other backman to end the year with a 600k pricetag... Whereas up forward - you could quite potentially have a handful at 600k.

I also very much doubt montagna will play every game this year.

Just realised all 6 of my starting forwards are all mid/for players.

Barlow, S,Gray, Hall, Wells, BenKen, Menadue.

Change of roles in the side (that has now opened up with the loss of Treloar).

He was playing pretty well pure midfield in GWS first couple of years, he had a few 30+ games where he got 80-95 but GWS lost them all by 10+ goals.

But I'm sure you knew that all already.

I see Barlow as Ross Lyon's Luke Ball vII, vulnerable on the spread. Ball was a good player, but not teamed alongside Hayes as we were too slow. It was one or the other. Barlow is only a 'lock' if Fyfe or Mundy go down.

Not saying he's a bad pick, he's just not a lock.

Then who is freos hayes?? Off the top of my head their midfield are all quick

It's not risky at all... If he averages low 90s he's still a top 15 forward.. With mid/fwd dpp that's great
He is a forward guys, not a mid..
90+ is premium for a forward

Min you get 90-95
Max you get 100-110

Risk??

He wears purple and that might rub off on my actual premos.

90+ is premium for a defender. For $500k+ I'd be wanting much more than a min 90avg for a forward.

I don't know what it is but Barlow just doesn't excite me. No risk, but safe and boring. Not the lock everyone makes out to be imo.

You should get Ross on the phone. He could do to hear this.
Couldn't agree with you more. For Freo to take that next step, the likes of Suban, DeBoer, C.Pearce, even Mzungu (who's been a warrior) need to be pushed out by the next generation. They need to be given a chance to do that, which Ross seems so reluctant to do.
Suban attending more centre bounces than Barlow is just crazy
