With Thommo coming to the end. Douglas is so so form; DMAC having a career game, which still didn't make our top 6, there is plenty of room in our engine room

JL wouldn't be the first one I'd push out.

We need more quality.
Is our talent identification in good order? Can understudies on our list step up! We should have played a couple.

That pick 29 will soon be pushed back half a dozen picks, unless it's being used it's useless.
I wouldn't say it's useless, but on its own I agree it's unders for Lyons. If it's what we accept then I suspect it's a means to an end for other trades, or there's a Doedee like smoky that were keen on in that range. It's not something I'd get too hung up about yet.

Considering you don't have a 2nd and he hasn't played a ton, then 43 might get the deal done, but as I said, he's contracted, so I dunno how much more that adds to his worth.
Done, no takesies-backsies!

But seriously, we'll be trying to offload a few for picks this year. Vickery we'll be aiming for a second round compo, or try stuff ourselves by matching the offer if Hawks lowball. Conca I'd send to Freo or West Coast. Would love 31 from West Coast but probably overs. Lennon to Carlton might net us 23. They're the ones we've publicly entertained.

Conca to West Coast
31 to Adelaide
CEY to Richmond

Works for our teams, wgaf about WC :p

Not having a go, just genuinely curious. You were adamant that Hurley to Crows was going to happen. What did you know? What was your source? You seem as clueless as the rest of us right now lol.
I've stressed a few times I have no footy sources, the Menzel mail was from someone not involved in footy who knew it was happening, got lucky, it's not someone who will have info every year. The Hurley info was from someone else who said we were having a genuine crack.

Totally forgot about Wigg, he could be lethal in our midfield rotations with this kicking skills along with the Rat. You can already see the difference Atkins makes to our team with his sublime kicking skills, Wigg is an even better kick, oh and then there's Riley Knight.

**** me we have some talent waiting in the wings.

Most on here would expect a third rounder to get it done. If there's a bidding war then we may get an extremely lucky late second but doubt anyone here is thinking that.
Mate that's not how it works! You're supposed to say how high demand he is and he's behind your players and he's easily worth a top 20 picks.

Oh wait it's only "Magpies" that are like that. :D

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is the most deep, talent-laden Crows squad I have ever seen. If it means we have to move on a consistent vanilla footballer to fulfill our needs, then I am all for it.

Just hopefully there is something coming in that is better.

EC I don't understand this logic. We can't get the Academy players anyway - we would get the 29th non-academy player available with pick 29. Pick 29 is pick 29.

Lyons has agreed a 4yr 400k pa deal to north.
Crows apparently happy to trade him.

Great deal for him.
We better get something good in a trade for him then.

North source, early 2nd rounder
Hmm.

4 years at 400k is overs for Lyons. Wouldn't pay that much.

I'd be hoping for an early second round pick for him, especially considering that contract
I would agree, but I doubt that would have needed to match that offer to get him stay, just needed to offer him something half descent.

If he is being moved on as part of some grand plan to improve our midfield, then it could work, however I have little expectation that we will be getting the elusive sly fish/big fox.

We are getting the 35th best player in the draft.
That logic is just plain wrong, different clubs and different recruiters ratings are often miles apart....by your logic Rory Sloane was the 44th best player in the 2008 draft when he'd be in strong contention to be the absolute best depending on who was doing the rating.

Would not blame Lyons if he wanted to leave though I'll be upset and annoyed with the club if he does. Stuck with us and we reward him by offering him half of what he's worth.

Everyone on here that complains that players have no loyalty need to look at the way we treat some players and realise it's a two way street.

Also wondering if perhaps the complete lack of injuries has made everyone forget that we need first 22 quality mids in reserve. Easy to imagine that Thommo may be done at the end of this year and Lyons leaves. Now imagine that one of our mids gets a serious injury in the pre-season. Our current starting mids are Sloane, Crouch, Crouch, Lyons, Thommo, Atkins and there is a real possiblilty of playing next year with half of them gone/unavailable.

Still think we are eyeing off Menzel or Hampton for that next midfield spot (with a 2017 full pre season).

Don't forget these list managers trade accordingly for 2-3 years down the track, not for next year only (2016), they were never a chance of a midfield spot this year.
Menzel wasn't drafted in to play primarily as a forward, he will most likely take Douglas's spot next year(fwd 70% & midfield bursts 30%), while Dougy takes JL's midfield minutes.
Rockliff for Thommo.
Wigg also says hello, this kid can play

I think we will find that it will be the midfield that gets a makeover over the next 1-2 trade / draft periods

Sloane and the Crouch brothers are locked in, Wigg and Milera will be given time and opportunity to move into the midfield however players like Lyons, CEY and Grigg will be at risk to make way to build the midfield that Pyke wants

The success of Pyke's game plan starts at winning the contest and I think it will be the midfield that he will focus on in the next 1-2 trade / draft periods
