Nah, he's not better than Talia, Tex, Betts and I'd say even Laird. He would be our second best mid though unless Brad comes on as expected.
Laird & Talia play easier roles. The best KPD in the competition is not a better player than the 40th best midfielder

Betts plays a niche, icing on the cake role.

Tex at his best I'll grant you but we haven't seen it for a while.

I was referring to the idea that defense is a much easier position.

If midfielders were such better players than defenders why have we recently spent two of our first round draft picks on defenders?
Why indeed

Not that we've drafted bad players. They both look great. But there's a limit to how much influence a defender can have on the game whereas quality midfields get it done when it counts.

A poor midfield leaves you as vulnerable as a bad defense, not more, not less.

You can't have one part of the ground that is too poor or the disadvantage in that area outweighs the advantage in all others.

Is this your feeling or you got some information on it?
My gut feel from what ive heard. Lyons will net us a pick in the 20s. Imo we will couple that pick with a player like cey to get a high teens pick which we will move to carlton for gibbs. Carlton are in rebuild. They want draft picks. We want to hold onto pick 13.

Our drafting policy isn't needs based in the first round. We always go best available.

Sure, you want good players everywhere. But you can get by with Hamling, Roberts, Cordy in peripheral roles. Key midfield roles you can't skimp.

We've done it backwards. We've gone for a blue chip defence with a workmanlike midfield.

Soft spot for Brisbane

Christ, don't get DABM started on that.

I'm ok with this.

I had said 2 2nd rounders which is essentially what that deal ends up as.
