Laird really didn't set the world on fire this year tbh
Again SEN player ratings are not the be and end all but:

2016 Season
1 NM Won his own footy and repelled from the back half all night in a strong effort. 7
2 Port Close to winning the Showdown Medal; inspirational especially in the first half. 8
3 Rich In everything in defence in the first half. Ended with 25 touches to be an influential performer. 7
4 Syd Best small defender in the AFL at the minute, still needs to improve his disposal. 7
5 Haw Prolific ball getter in early part then output tapered to an extent. 5
6 Frem Left the game with a bruised toe after keeping Ballantyne goalless. 7
7 Toe.
8 Toe.
9 Toe.
10 Toe.
11 StK First game back from a toe injury and didn’t miss a beat with 30 possessions. 7
12 WCE Played well off half-back. Another high possession game from him. 7
14 NM Showed great courage to mark the footy with Ben Brown steaming through. 6
15 Melb Intercepted the ball brilliantly in the back half and was among the best. 8
16 Carl Huge again rebounding across half back. All-Australian half back surely. 8
17 Hip.
18 Geel Huge first term (nine touches) then Cats clamped on him a little. Still tried hard. 6
19 Ess One of the AFL’s best defenders. Wins his own footy while stopping his opponent. 8
20 Bris Biggest possession winner on the ground despite being tagged in defence. 8
21 Frem The team’s main ball winner. Worked hard from defence. 7
22 Port Played more up the ground after the injury to Smith, had four inside-50s. 7
23 WCE Worked hard but gave away a 50m penalty in the third term resulting in a goal. 6
EF NM Mopped up as he does across half-back. Used ball superbly all night. 7
SF Syd Battled hard down back. At least used footy well when he got it. 7

I'd be interested to see what % of the cap Hawthorn pay players 20-35 on their list compared to us

You'd assume substantially less than us. They don't have a Manzel and Hampton running around in their seconds all year like us. Nor a VB.

Port posters demanding a top 10 pick for Hartlett. Tell them they are dreamin!

:drunk:
Lol. 3rd round pick and Port continue to pay half his contract, otherwise they can keep him. Seriously, I don't know why we would even be entertaining the discussion. They've got a massively overpaid, massively underperforming player (in fact they have several) that they're desperate to offload. This isn't a player who wants out, it's a club that NEEDS to get rid of him, and you don't get top dollar in a fire sale. They've painted themselves into a corner with these ludicrous contracts they've signed, and I'm perfectly happy to sit here and watch them get dragged down by them. Anybody who even engages in discussions with them about Hartlett (or Lobbe) knows full well that it's a buyer's market and they'll be looking for a bargain.

Seems like a lot of first rounders spent on defenders to me
Mentioning Smith is more than cheeky considering that he played all of his under age football as a midfielder and we drafted him with a plan of playing him there. Why we have gone away from that plan is a different discussion all together.

"Great art comes out of a level of frustration...When I was in Amsterdam, I did go to Van Gogh's Museum and I am not an art critic. There is a man with a great frustration and I looked at that painting Sunflower and for a bogan from Hamilton, like myself, I could actually see beauty in that frustration. So although our fans are frustrated! We're frustrated! We like to think that there are some masterpieces still to be painted this year" - Phil Walsh 25/06/2015

We didn't draft all of them at the same time

We drafted Lever and Doedee knowing that Smith was a defender

So collingwood into HE, Wells and Mundy. That's one stacked midfield with their current players. Any midfielders we could get from them that might want to come to us? Broomhead?
