Maybe Port last year? They had a pretty shocking run in the lead up to finals I remember and turned it on. That's the immediate one that comes to mind.
Port played a lot of good football last year tho then fell into a mini slump, then picked it back up again.

Your comparison is pretty close tho.

Yeah our first half has not been nearly as convincing, but my point is it is not impossible to turn around a form slump in the second half of the season. 2009 Geelong were very unconvincing in the 2nd half of that season, since their loss to St Kilda, they went on to lose to finalists Brisbane by 43, Carlton by 35, Bulldogs by 14. They beat two minnows in Fremantle and Melbourne by 40 odd points and only scraped across the line by less than a goal against Hawthorn, Adelaide at Kardinia Park, and us (Hawthorn and us weren't even top 8 teams that year). History would tell us that Geelong ended up winning the premiership, of course we're not that Geelong team and our form slump is a bit worse but it's not as if all hope is lost.

Yer nothing is impossible we just needed everything to go perfectly to even have some hope.

Parker, Franklin, Laidler, Rohan, Heeney all injured at the wrong time of the year :(

Yeah it makes it very difficult for sure, but I don't know I just try to find a silver lining out of sh!t situations. Maybe, just maybe, these injuries could provide an opportunity to someone who otherwise wouldn't have gotten one and they might be a surprise packet. Who knows perhaps Towers could get in the right frame of mind and be an asset to us, he's got the physical attributes to be a player in my opinion.

Anyway, 7 weeks is a long time in football and a lot can change so there's no point looking too far ahead, may as well take each week as it comes. First thing's first, we need to beat GWS, our run has to be now, no more second chances.

I feel like opinions on this board can often be too extreme one way or the other, it's like it's either all "doom and gloom" or "everything is fine" :rainbow: Realistically my take is that we CANNOT win the premiership the way we are playing RIGHT NOW. But let's take a different point of view, who do you think in the 8 has the most room for improvement? Based on the team's capabilities I'm fairly confident that it is us, currently we're probably not even playing to 75% of our capabilities. The good news out of this is that while we've played horrid football recently we're still sitting 5th and in with a shot at top 4. If we can fix up a few issues and find that 10-15% improvement somewhere I'd think we can make the top 4 and give finals a real shake. It's never as good as it seems, and it's never as bad as it seems.
Have we got improvement though or is this just us
We have been playing pretty poor for a long time now , as you say 7 weeks is a long time in footy and we having been playing poor for longer than that
Maybe just maybe we are not capable this year

I'm with you on that score. I'm just hoping we make the four. From there we get a real chance.

There's been a fair amd justified amount of expectation adjustment for me since our Hawk/WCE games though. Especially as the injuries mount.

If the final 4 are:
1. Freo
2. WCE
3. Hawks
4. Sydney

It'll be a Freo/Sydney vs WCE final. I can see us beating Freo and not sure if the Hawks can win a final away from the MCG. I'm confident of us being able to win at ANZ. Just need to keep taking the game on. I wouldn't mind seeing us taking more risks. Just keep Franklin/Tippett in the forward 50 with a Heeney/Reid type link up player in CHF

Just take things one week at a time. Win the last 3 games then reassess. If this group does have a run in them it has to be now, another loss and I'd say the season is pretty much dead.

We can't win it from 5th.

No one can.

Need top 4 then hope the ducks all waddle into a row for us somehow.

Freo is the only team I would like to face out of the other top sides now. Seem in a funk like us and we can "outscore" them all things being equal. Others I am just not confident with. Scrub that - we can't outscore the others given how the side is instructed to play.

You've been saying it for a while now.
You won't be too upset then when we crash out first week of the finals.
