I really rated some of his efforts in the preseason game against Gold Coast, his repeat efforts were great. And same in the final game against the crows, think he caught a couple holding the ball with his explosive speed and great tackling technique. I definitely think he has more potential in this area than Motlop and Murdoch.
Murdoch has been used as a pressure player but then people here complain that he's not getting enough of the ball. Likewise Varcoe last season.
They only get positive reports here when they are being attacking and creative which coincides with a drop-off in their pressure act numbers.

Some players can do both- ie be attacking AND keep the pressure on- Selwood is one of these. Motlop improved in this area in the second half of this season. We seem to lack this type of player but I hope it's just inexperience from the young guys and that they will improve.

AFL.com's summary:

First draft selection: No.9
Unsigned free agents: Dawson Simpson
Delistings/retirements: Sam Blease, Brad Hartman, Steve Johnson, James Kelly, Hamish McIntosh, Jared Rivers, Mathew Stokes, James Toohey

Who else is going?
Ruckman Dawson Simpson is likely on the way out after playing just 28 games in eight injury-plagued seasons, with several rival clubs showing interest in the 26-year-old. Forward Josh Walker could leave as part of a trade for Carlton swingman Lachie Henderson. South Australian speedster Jordan Murdoch has been raised as a possible target of Adelaide in any Patrick Dangerfield trade, but he is contracted to the end 2018 and, at this stage, unlikely to agree to a move.

Who's coming?

Restricted free agent Patrick Dangerfield has nominated Geelong as his preferred new home, but the Cats will almost certainly have to trade for him given the Crows' apparent preparedness to match any free agency offer. They will likely have to part with (1) their 2015 first-round pick and (2) a 2016 pick (probably first-round) and/or a player. Carlton key-position player Lachie Henderson has requested a trade to Geelong, but the Dangerfield negotiations will complicate the Cats' efforts to satisfy the Blues' trade demands. The Cats are also pursuing out-of-contract Gold Coast ruckman Zac Smith and are set to acquire West Coast vice-captain Scott Selwood as a restricted free agent.

Jj gone
Walker gone
Kersten possibly gone
Dawson gone

That's a minimum of 12 new players
Serious madness

I still cannot believe we got rid of SJ.

With there likely being 10 spots to fill with 6 or more selections after 45, not keeping a gun forward pocket for another year is madness

Obviously we have to wait and see what happens, but if they f@ck this up they deserve to be held to account.

Getting Henderson, danger and Selwood is great, but won't cover 10+ list vacancies. Why on earth did they cut SJ?

Jj walks when it's his time to step up
It's the risk in developing players

That's why recruiting 2-3 25 year olds is a must, can't recruit 7 18 year olds from 50 onwards
Trading for danger is seriously naive
Either they have something up their sleeves, or this is a really poor list management strategy. We need to use our picks AND pick up free agents (for free).

This is exactly what I have been thinking. We have a lot of players going and very few picks and not many good ones at that. Unless SJ needed to be moved on re salary cap pressure because we know we are getting Danger, Scooter and Henderson. Otherwise it makes little sense to me.

I hope they get there mitts on Kolo's brother at some point. I'm all for developing a back-line with great footskills. J. Kolo has 'em, Thurlow has 'em. K. Kolo most definitely has 'em.

That and a bit of speed off the half-back flank. No, not Murda. Someone with speed AND footy smarts.
Murda has to play up front. His kicking into the forward line is what we need
