Wells just said he could still be on the list next year.
"If Smith doesn't eventuate, we believe Stanley, Vardy, Clark, and even Blicavs could get the job done for us etc. etc. etc."

"Where does that leave Dawson Simpson?"

*10 second pause* "Ah... er... we have tried Simpson and McIntosh together as our ruckman in the past... *generic statement about nothing being a certainty*"

Gone.

Also said that even if we bring in another ruckman Dawson could still be here!

Weird.

It was very clear he's gone. He was asked the question and it was clearly an inappropriate time to come out and say "Yes, he'll be delisted."
I can't see how he could stay really, especially if we brought in another ruckman. Yet that's exactly what he said. He didn't have to say that but for some reason he did.

If Lobbe is available, surely he is the target over Smith!

Might come down to "what it'll cost" though, I guess
Danger = Free or pick 9 for 14 (compo) & 3rd rnd
Selwood = Free
Henderson = 28 + Walker

Leaving us either 9 or 14 to go after a No. 1 Ruckman.
Smith = pick 9 (probs overs) or 14 for Smith + 22 (GC end of rnd 1 compo)
Lobbe = pick 9 for Lobbe + 29 (Ports 2nd rnd) or Lobbe for pick 14

Would definitely prefer Lobbe and would be more than happy to give up pick 14. If we are left with pick 9 and need to offload it to get it done then I'd be happy to if it means securing a decent, young, durable no.1 ruck. If I were Geelong I'd be in Lobbe's ear. If the Danger deal leaves us with no 2015 1st rounder then Lobbe might be out of our reach.

sure hope we snag Lobbe. Been hoping for it for a while now. He'd instantly make us a 9th-12th placed team to one that could fight for a spot in the finals as you can be assured he will be out there all season long while averaging 30 hit-outs each game. Massive coupe if we pulled this one off, absolutely massive!

Are we a serious chance of being able to get him?

Could it just be that with 8 players leaving and potentially Walker and Kersten too, it makes more sense to leave him on the list (break in case of emergency if he can miraculously stay fit) than delist?
Sounds like other clubs might eye him off anyway and he can walk, so doubt he'd stay if we get Zac.

If we actually went after him.

4 years left on his contract though so may have to take on some of his wage. However imo he is the best ruck on the market and will be our best chance to actually get a genuine number 1 ruck since Ottens,where as I don't think Smith is one, he is another number 2.

Like all of our other deals, it would depend on whether Crows will match and what we have to give up.

Zero. For starters Hinkley has said he's not going to trade him, which at the very least means he's not going to trade him for anything less than a too-good-too-refuse deal (which we can't do). And then Wells pretty much confirmed that we don't have any others on our radar outside of PD, LH, SS and ZS.

Is there a daily Trade Radio wrap-up podcast available for those of us unable to listen live? I'm in the UK at the moment and the time difference makes things hard.

If you go to this website on computer, there is an audioBoom app in the top right corner that has the interviews with Paul Connors and Stephen Wells available.

People are bemoaning our lack of depth, if we recruit all those players we're apparently after, then assuming they are best 22.

I make it we have players like Clark, Gregson, Bews, Lonergan, and Cowan as depth. That is a pretty good start right there. Now of course those 4 may not slot into out starting 22. and wouldn't be surprised if some players like Murdoch, Lang, Mackie, find themselves under some serious pressure.
