Also said that even if we bring in another ruckman Dawson could still be here!

Weird.
From what he said, I interpreted it to mean that we will be going with the mobile rucks next year but, should we go down another path, (ie. bring in another ruckman- and this is where my interpretation wanders off the straight and narrow- I assumed he meant a BIG boy), then we will have two BIG ruckmen, rather than stick with the mobiles. And thus Simpson will be the dinosaur backup.
Doesn't sound like he thinks this is the plan, though. More like trying to keep us all wondering how things will play out.

I found it to be all over the shop and as you say, this may have been intentional.

One thing that occurred to me was the AFL.com.au article saying several clubs were interested in Daws. If that is true it makes sense that Wells would preserve his value in the interview today.

The only thing is, at least in my view, is that Smith is one of the most talented rucks I have seen when he's on song. That's very rarely the case though but when he's going, he's like Dean Cox. The skills and deft hands for such a tall person are simply exceptional. Almost like a midfielder caught in a big mans body.
You get what you need from Lobbe and given our predicament right now, we just can't take another gamble on someone like Smith and I truly hope our list managers are contemplating a similar thought.

We have too many young midfielders who are smack bang in the middle of their development phase and to continually have to adjust to new rucks during a season, it's impacting their progress to a slight degree. Need some cohesiveness with this midfield brigade and it has to start in 2016.
^^^ Totally agree with the bolded, Bobby!

I didn't realise that other clubs were sniffing around. Good for Big Daws. And, yes, that does make sense.

Yes, maybe just doing the right thing by him as an UFA. It doesn't hurt or help us in any way.

Lux is outside the cap... but if they had an eye on another international type would it beneficial to upgrade him this year?

On another one of your posts...just how many picks do you feel GC will have in the R1.... Probably will not happen but I like your P3 idea.
p9+ R2;2016 <> p3? Be close on points id say
I think we can have 3 Cat B rookies- unless they're Irish, in which case you can only have 1 and the other/s has/ve to be a Cat A.

28 games in 8 seasons irrespective of the reasons why he hasn't played is a terrible return on an investment and another club would have to be absolutely mental to think that he will miraculously just stop being broken and play AFL level football. I like Simpson, I think he has shown some good signs in years past but in 2014-15 he's looked like a train wreck and eventually you have to admit that the potential for improvement has peaked.

that is the kind of trade an AI in a video game would let through but isn't a serious trade in real life.
Also I think that Luxford is now inside the cap now that he has made his debut for the club.

so if Luxford goes back to the rookie list next season, his money is counted in the cap?
(Just checked - there's nothing that I could see about us having to count his full $$ in the cap just because he's been elevated. Can you point to the relevant rule, 10lana?)

Wells interview was a good insight to his thoughts without giving away too much.

He seemed confident we will get all 4 deals done without paying overs and is prepared to walk away from the trade table if other clubs are wasting his time.

He did mention I'm a strong believer in building up natural talent from the draft rather than chasing players. So I don't expect him to be throwing away too many of our picks around for players.

So as of today the following seems achievable during the trade/FA period:

In: Dangerfield, Henderson, Selwood, Smith

Out: pick 9, pick 28, Walker, 2016 2nd pick

I don't think we can give up any more than that. We will miss out on one if there is more to give up.
Wells didn't sound too keen on giving up any future picks but understood why clubs would do it.

I working from memory ( I could easily be mistaken), essentially Category A Rookies have only half of there wage count in the cap, while category B Rookie full wage don't count in the cap until they debut at which point they operate like category A Rookies from a wage perspective.

I don't think we are any chance of getting Lobbe. He's a very good ruckman and Port would rightly want good deal considering he recently signed a 4 year deal.

I'd say it's very unlikely Geelong will be in the market for any other higher profile players than the ones linked already. For better or worse the cats plans are usually well known.

If we somehow manage to get the 4 players we're after. I'd say that would be our greatest recruiting coup of all time.

That doesn't necessarily translate into success but if other things work out it sure gives us a good chance.
Port need salary cap relief next year so they may listen to offers if they are good

What do you mean by that...? Any other comments you'd like to be forthcoming with.
