Ye of little faith. why on earth would the club show exorbitant amounts of faith in him and then he just walks.

No chance of leaving.
Scott recently said that before getting injured he was going to build the team around Menzel (& Vardy). Menzel may not end being as dominant as expected, but gee I think he will give it a god shot based on that game against Collingwood. That is the first time since Ablett Snr played that I have walked away from a game we lost, happy, just because of the performance of an individual. It was fantastic.

Trade a player ?... cant be Motlop now...so who ?
I reckon we will ideally not trade our 2016 R1 , gives us R2 and R3 to play with
That player is Walker. Factored in already.

I agree about R1 2016. If for no other reason than it would hamstring us from trading 2017 or 2018 first rounders (assuming 9 is gone this year).

We've got to fatten these threads up somehow.

Just got to look at it logically. Vice Captain of the club. Ryder under a WADA cloud. Back up in Redden delisted. Schulz uncertain (which affects Ryder in the ruck potentially). Hinkley defiant.

No chance. Absolutely none whatsoever.
There's 10,000 of them and 9 of us, we'll never make it.

Look, we made it!

I think Wells said at the very beginning of the interview that we aren't going to be giving up future picks for players. He mentioned it's something clubs may consider to get there list right. "You can't give away trades you don't have" was another statement he mentioned.

How would we get PD, LH and ZS without trading anything from next year?
Based on the Wells interview and my interpretation is:
PD will be our R1 pick otherwise we are prepared to walk.
LH will be either a R2 pick or Walker but not getting both for him.
ZS was if we get him that's great but we aren't going to be chasing him as we have enough players on our list that can do the job.

Fair enough. I think LH will be R2 + Walker and Smith will also take a 2nd rounder. Can't see how it happens without bringing 2016 into play. Wells said it was an option.

Walker <> Car deal. so how do we get the other deals like Smith. Kersten/Jansen/??

and yes I feel the same way about the R1 from 2016. 2 in 4 years ...it might mean having to trade in a R1.

See above. Smith 2016 R2. Kersten will stay. Jansen for something token at best. There are no other players looking to leave or expendable.

I dont think Wells is in his natural habitat talking trades... sound too nice. Id Smith is our Bullseye but we have to see how the other trades pan out.

We all know how measured and considered Chris Scott is with his media comments.

So a response by him last week certainly pricked my ears (on afl360 from memory). Asked a question in relation to the clubs steadfast policy of not paying anyone any more than Selwood (wrt to Danger) Scott interestingly replied that "anything we do in the next year or two would not compromise that'. I would be reading more than something into that personally.

Anyways, I'm off to get a trolley.
I'll go get mine too, in case yours doesn't fit it all in.

I certainly think there's two broad ways of approaching the acquisition of Danger - either paying big money and saving our picks, or sticking to our pay structure and having to trade. The latter approach, which Scott hints at in the quote you posted, would certainly make it more possible to continue to bring FAs in, after this year.

Though how much money are they actually going to have, if on top of Danger they bring in blokes like Henderson and Selwood who would probably demand $350-$450K. Selwood's not worth more than $300k in his current state, but that won't produce the compensation the Eagles are after.

Definitely have another listen to the Wells interview. Let us know whether you think differently.

You could be right with LH but I think Wells will get Carlton 2nd round draft pick if that's the case. He stated Walker is a required player for us.

From 9:40. The only doubt on it he casts is "hopefully it's a bit simpler than that" [trading future picks]

I think Walker will be traded for Zac Smith after listening to it again. I think Wells is more keen on Henderson than Danger just by his tone.
Walker for Zac?

Interesting. The Suns are a key forward down with Dixon walking.

With that in mind, here is my absolute dream scenario.

Dangerfield - Crows don't match OR trade pick 9 for pick 13 and throw in our R2 2016

Henderson - R2 2015

Selwood - RFA

Smith - Walker and exchange of late picks in GC's favour

We would land all four of our targets while retaining a first round pick this year and next.

Very notable today on Trade radio when Stephen Wells was talking about our ruck stocks for next year he mentioned Stanley, Vardy, Clark and Blitz as making our ruck core but they are looking to add to that, when asked where does that leave Dawson he Wellsy was hesitant to commit that he would be there next year
Things are looking decidedly bleak for big Daws as a Cat.
