The problem is, every other club would know how easy Geelong is to deal with (whether you want to call that soft is another matter). That could make it pretty unlikely to get acceptable starting terms.
Yes ... id get a feel that we are like the "town bike" , but Id guess we have to be practical as well as being diligent. OOC players make it harder for clubs. OCC players wanting to go to bottom clubs make it even harder. How ever ., wanting to go to clubs in the top halve we do have a little bit a a say... but the same sort of rules apply as does when we are talking about Danger.

If Motlop is just after a payday , and not particular about which club , and he finds a cashed up club that is willing to pay ... then he could nominate for the PSD , nominate an amount that only that club could pay.

If it top level money that he wants... (800) how many clubs will be able to pay him that in the PSD? We may be pushed a bit into a corner. If there are two or three with the same sort of offer and he has a preference that is higher up the ladder... the we do have a bit of leverage.

There'a a difference between being easy going and sensible and being easy like a slut - we are the former. Pragmatic where it counts. campaignersen aside I don't think we've ever been bent over and given his output this year and last... meh.

Yes. This. I think I ran through our last 7-8 years of trading when we lost Bundy and we've hardly been bent over (Bundy trade aside). It's this notion of having to be seen to win trades, simply I think in a lot of those cases we've done nothing more than trade fairly which is perceived to be getting bent over by those who expected more (the win trade scenario group).

It has just been confirmed GWS did indeed offer Geelong picks 4 & 7 for Steve Johnson last year.
They discussed it at length and even suggested it could be a decision the club rue's further on down the track.

People in here who quickly suggest GWS did nothing of the sort, your wrong.

Ok Bob I'll take your word for it that we were offered that. Quick question. SJ didn't want to go so how do we force a trade? If he says no wouldn't that scupper any chance of a trade eventuating?

Where was this Bobby?... and if the player doesn't want to go did they say how they would or should push him?

From the HS:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...val-clubs-circle/story-fni5f6yf-1227395961842

The Cats are in contract talks with Kolodjashnij in a bid to lock away the key stopper beyond this season. He finished fourth in the VFL best and fairest in his first season, last year.
Gold Coast, where Kolodjashnij’s twin brother, Kade, has played 28 games, and Brisbane, which is looking for more key defensive support, have been linked to the second-year Cat.
It is understood the 193cm backman wants to stay at the Cattery but could yet be tempted to weigh up rival interest if Geelong is able to secure Carlton swingman Lachie Henderson.
Kolodjashnij is eager for more senior opportunity but the arrival of Henderson would keep the youngster down the pecking order in Geelong’s back half.

Pretty sure I read that on BF yesterday... not having a go at you JF just at the author. I'd be pissed if we lost him. Given the way the Suns are going and their list (they many that can play his position already) I can't see him moving.

There is always plus and minus... bring in Hmac and there is an opportunity cost... bring in Clark and same OC , and Daner and SS and Henderson...would be the same. Bring in play now guys , it just pushes the kid back down. BUT , as has been proved if the kids are good enough they will elevate. Enrights form could be used to say that Thurlow should be in the two's. Rivers form is fantastic.. but we need to take a heads up view of what is the right thing for the club, not just the side.

Kolo should be played 2-4 games this year. Kelly out now , Bartel out now... perhaps its time. He has shown he is more versatile than just a dour defender... bring him in CS

If we can we should organise a contract. Then a trade of JK IF we get another defender in thru FA /Trade.

The Suns will be keen to trade out some fringe players at years end. Among those there will be some unpolished "gold" available.

Eg JK out and say two players our way.

We will probably need to replace 10/11 players. Trading in a couple of underdeveloped Suns kids might be one move. 2/3 FA/trade, 5 draft picks, 2 suns kids for Kolo.

Just enjoying the glow of a good weekend- dreaming?

CW... the more i see us play , the more I think it will not be the huge clean out some may think. 10 or 11... guess it depends on who you think are in that 10 or 11.
Let me go this way ...who I think will not go.. I think Bartel , Rivers , Enright , Kelly... have all shown they can still play well enough to be in the frame to stay. Depends on body health. Menzel and Cowan will also probably stay in some fashion. Of course it would be reasonable to also decide to move all on.

My logic is we have shaped to bring in Play now Players. Enright Rivers their form gets him another year if they want. Bartel and Kelly have had contact injuries.. nothing to do with old man stuff. If their bodies are OK why deplete the list....... and just like Enright , they may just find that bag of form ... Forget their age , just look if they can get on the field.

In a year that is thin at draft post will we really clean it all out. Id say we bring 3 or 4 in , draft 2-4 .. depends on players going that we would prefer to keep , and who we decide to redraft as Rookies.

On Kolo you are in a euphoric after glow. Two Suns player for a 2nd year player that hasn't played. Be lucky to get 1. Of course if he plays and get a RSN , that changes.

I couldn't disagree more. Good clubs don't trade away their good young players. Lets sign Kolo up and retain him for when our 3 best KPD's are no longer there and we're crying out for someone of his type, regardless of whether we recruit Henderson or not.

The clubs mindset will be to bring in quality players to compliment the ones that we already have. It won't be to bring in players to destroy the ones that we've already got.

The more stable our list stays, the better off we'll be IMO.

Pretty sure Geelong will want to sign him up... but if he decides that a mature defender coming in makes it hard for him and wants out.... I do not think that makes Geelong a non-good club. I guess it would be a little more difficult than a normal kid, with his brother playing so much already.

Unless, of course, an opportunity presents itself that will do both of the above- ie like the Clark/Stanley deals that may (if not for ongoing injury issues) kill off a handy young chap in Walker. :(

You're both missing the point of my post.

Firstly Turbo, Kolo wanting out and us trading him out are 2 different things.

And Teri, if Walker is good enough, he'll make it anyway. Clark and Stanley weren't brought in to destroy him. They were brought in to compliment him and add depth to an area that we were clearly lacking in last season. This would have been the clubs mindset in recruiting those 2 players.

Once your list has been finalised for the year, it's down to Darwinian.

I know Stanley was brought in primarily as a ruckman and Clark just fell into our laps. I was just being a bit facetious.

I dont think I have not really ..I can hear you loud and clear :)

Just to start... Id don't want to have a pedantic argument about semantics . A good club doesn't trade out young players or away or what ever. I think your saying to push them out. Id agree..and the post earlier that supposed the idea of signing him and then trading him... is extremely unlikely. Can anyone remember when Geelong has done this? But obviously in some situations we trade good young players. player out , something back in is a trade.

Secondly again semantics. I agree they want to add and compliment their the vast majority of the list and side.. but this of course means that some of the "ones we have got" will make way. If you bring in talent that jumps to the top , obviously someone gets pushed out

No pedantic argument needed Turbo. I agree with everything in this post. :)

It would only be possible if GCS really want him of course. Part of that might be to bed in their talented No.5 pick [Kade] plus a real deficiency in their defensive stocks as they see it. I agree it would be overs if those two factors aren't operating strongly.

Yes I agree. Thats why i have stated a number of times this kid should play sooner rather than later. if he looks north and they are blowing in his ear we could lose him for nothing. Which team is on the bottom of the ladder? The PSD beckons.

I hope Jake is happy and gets a good contract and it doesn't come to this but the longer he doesn't play and the more people talk FA defender to plug and play, the more nervous I get.

I hope the GFC are looking at all options closely.......................... and he debuts next week
