I've been a huge Hottest 100 fan over the years and honestly do enjoy the Australian touch that makes the poll unique. But the right balance of quality music and Australian music is critical to its success I feel.

JJJ in the past has prided the Hottest 100 on being "the worlds biggest music democracy" and its ability to attract voters from 170+ countries. Unfortunately I fear it will soon start to lose relevance if it evolves into a "Triple J Unearthed Hottest 100", where the majority of artists are completely unknown beyond our shores or even outside the radio station itself.

Seems likely where it is heading, especially as music in general becomes more niche and there are less truly big acts.

RRR and PBS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JJJ

I can hand you RRR when they have good programmers on but man PBS is a load of shit. I might get lucky like 1 out of 10 times I flick it on. Usually it's all foreign language or 50s jazz in some low quality low volume output. It sucks

Also i think I say this every year but coming into a JJJ thread and doing nothing but shitting on JJJ is the equivalent of me coming onto an oppo team board and just shitting on all their players smasha

At least posters like SA contribute to the thread and participate in discussion while still being critical, that's the best way to do it if you are going to disagree

Did I read that there are 66 Aussie songs in this year's chart? If so, the pendulum has swung too far. You could show a Hottest 100 from the '90s to an American and they would mostly follow it. You show 66 Aussie songs to them and you will get a bemused reaction.

Unfortunately the station wears it like a badge of honour so we'll only end up seeing more Aus songs in the future and not less.

My prediction.

1. Never Be Like You
2. Papercuts
3. Adore
4. Stranger
5. Jungle
6. 1955
7. Starboy
8. Say it
9. Viceroy
10. Opposite of Us

Have a great day guys, dont get caught up to much in the politics of the day

This looks like the worst collection of songs in a Hottest 100 ever
Certainly very underwhelming but, unfortunately, that's been the case for about the last 3 years. I quite enjoyed 2013 when Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, QOSTA and Arcade Fire had multiple songs but, since then, most of the countdown has just been dull.

I don't DISLIKE Never Be Like You, but it's a seriously underwhelming number 1.

Unfortunately there have been far too many that fit that bill the last few years.

Record votes as they claim just doesn't make sense

Oh wow this is Empire of the Sun, didn't even know haha

This Childish Gambino song sux
