So Chad has played with a dislocated finger for most of the season. Along with 2 hamstring strains and a head knock it's been a rough year for him. No wonder he wasn't quite his usual mercurial self.

It'd explain the lack of marks at least. Seriously add Chad at half pace, Dixon playing under duress, Boak clearly playing injured at least part of the year with all kept playing and it's just why? With these we were never going to be a flag threat (on top of no Ryder), yet we risked long term injuries on key players to limp to mid table. So the 'gains' were injury risks, a worse draft pick and less games for their potential replacements. To see the team repeatedly embarrassed, without the extra justification them being out would have given.

My mind is just boggling at the clubs thinking across everything this year.

This.

Wingards marking ability flat out disappeared this year, so hearing this news is actually pretty good IMO.

Hopefully he can get in a solid preseason, stay injury free in the first part of the year, build some confidence and get back his magic marking ability and his clean skills at ground level.

Where do you draw the line though? If we mothball Boak, Wingard, Dixon et al and do the same with other players under duress, would we be able to field a team after June?

I'd have been happy to not be able to field a team, then call out the AFL, that perhaps they should have given us top up players.
