I can't believe we don't have a team. Surely we can top up with academy or recently retired players?
It's poor form to not have a team to field.
This sort of half assedness would make me homesick.

Quite possible a squad of 29 travelled to Mackay for the PR. Less injuries, doesn't leave a lot left to play a scratch reserves match.

Also:

Lions Reserves v Southport - Sat, March 5.
Lions Academy v GC Academy - Sat, March 5

There goes our usual top-up source.

Academy had a game the same day. Hence the topups from the Opposition,. As stated elsewhere, it was a preseason game.

Reserves using opposition players as top-ups during the pre-season has been going on since cocky was an egg.
Did Cocky wear an onion on his belt at the time?

It's still a reserves team for an actual AFL team. We shouldn't have people not involved with the club playing for us. Don't care. Need to be professional even at the grass roots.

We only have enough players on the list for two teams though.

Have a social team too and let them play.
Play past players.
I don't know the solution but it's horribly unprofessionable IMHO

Clearly within social there is variations.

I don't have the solution, but it should be more difficult to get a game for the Lions reserves, even a scratch match.

Would be a great honour for some people. Should be an honour for all that represent the club in an official capacity, even at reserve level, even in a scratch match.

I still think past players may be a buzz for the younger boys in the reserves. I guess any past players in SEQ with match fitness are in a team anyway though. So, fly em in.

If the Lions paid to fly people in to play a pre-season NEAFL game, I'd be worried about our financial management team.

Could actually make a bit of a community day out of it? People would come down to watch some of our past players get involved.

As I've said, I don't know the solution, but pride in the jumper should at least extend to the reserves team. If we had a reserves reserves team (a 3rd tier) Id think differently.

Some of our first year players may only play reserves this year. Making it at least seem professional and not kick and giggle seems sensible.

What's going on? Who played? Seriously we should be smashing wins in practice games in the NEAFL without trying.

I think this has been explained more than enough already. Also, it's a practice match- i.e not the real thing.

People don't care about NEAFL games to the extent that they do VFL - I'm not sure if you're from Melbourne but I have a feeling you may be as you don't seem to be aware of what happens at NEAFL contests up here. The final pulls a somewhat ok crowd, but most weeks the interest is extremely low.

The situation is that we do not have a 3rd tier team, and that's precisely why we get top-ups from other teams.

I'd probably say that the NEAFL team's goals this year would be focused on implementing game plans and player roles rather than winning the title. We won the title (a couple of times in a row I think?) a few years ago - it didn't really help the club or help the seniors in any way at all.
