Your kidding yourself if you think O'Meara will still be in the league in 10 years time.

I keep saying this, but i reckon his new club would be lucky to get 100 games out of him, he might have more talent than Jesus Christ, but he would miss a month of footy just by sneezing.

A club like St Kilda can afford to take a punt on JOM, but we simply cannot.
Why do you say everything with so much conviction?

Yep because by trading in a player, you're actually just throwing away your pick. And not getting anything in return.
Well, no.
By definition; a trade involves receiving something in return. If what you're doing involves 'not getting anything in return' then you've just been robbed.

Are you a follower of The Movementarians ?

'O'Meara is good, O'Meara is great, we surrender our will, as of this state' :)

To be fair to me, i've been saying for 6 months now we shouldn't recruit JOM, and to be honest, i am a bit worried that there is a Messiah mystique surrounding him, i thought that those sort of eggs in one basket/quick fix recruits days at our footy club were over.

There are far too many risks/negatives for us to recruit O'Meara, and if people disagree, fine, they are entitled to their views, but i firmly believe it would be a mistake for us to trade for him.

Yeah I understand. You aren't alone with the opinion.

I'm not sure he's seen as a messiah. But a better prospect than what we're willing to give up for him. What will that be? We'll have to find out.

You are over analysing this way to much. No one is saying JOM is a messiah like you have mentioned in another post. All people are saying is he is a talented footballer in the right age bracket that would no doubt improve our midfield if club medicos deem that he has overcome his issues. Nothing wrong with that logic.

If SOS believes that JOM is a better prospect than whom ever is left with our first pick, and has largely overcome past injuries, then so be it. He is the expert, not you or I.

O'Meara would go pick #1 in this Draft.
After being ruled out with injury for two-years and still with question marks hanging over him, you think he would still go at #1 this year.

I'm not having a go at that theory but what does it say about the quality of this year's crop of players ??

Stringer went at six or whatever after a big break. I think Jaeger is the most talented player available. If you take missing the last two years into considerarion. He'd probably sit third behind McLuggage and Brodie.

A lack of high quality ball users outside the top 5 imo.

O'Meara has that and a real sense of special, game breaking quality to him.

I rate hime the best player in any of the draft pools since he was drated tbh

A lot of talk of Prestia, Omera, Mitchell, Crouch but in all honesty I think they are all a year early for us and would want a little too much money.
I don't understand nor agree with this logic when our only potential A-grade mids are >27yo and <22 yo.. Surely getting some talent in the middle bracket would greatly help our development.

Can I ask why you feel so strongly about the fact that JOM's body is stuffed? The kid played every game for two years before suffering one very serious injury. It's not like he has continued to break down with different issues.

my concern with JOM is that he came back this year through the NEAFL, and was ruled out again after 2 halves of footy due to "knee soreness"

no doubting his talent mind you

You know one of these days DVB you might just accept someone else can have an opinion or that it's possible for things not to be the exact way you think they are.
I disagree with your sweeping statement that no other player drafted since JOM is better than him, if you feel that way fine, just pointing out that many people would say The Bont (for example) is a more talented footballer.

Man... every time you talk about something you are so black and white. You try and ram your opinions down our throats as if they were certified gold standard facts.

We would love to have a guy run out and play 10+ years for us every time we grab someone... sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't.

The team could run out on the ground on Sunday... Cripps could trip up on something and go down and do both his knees and never play again. It might not happen, but at this point, the odds of it happening are close to even. A seemingly innocuous injury could spell the end of a career in the blink of an eye. Look at what happened to Daisy. Tore a couple of ligaments in his ankle and he really hasn't been the same as he was pre-injury. He is moving like he used to, but he just isn't the same.

But we took a risk on him, he played 20 games in his first season... and then landed wrong and dislocated his shoulder and he was gone for pretty much the season. He has played 14 games this year.

If we take a risk on O'Meara and it pays off and he plays for the next 10 years and we get 150 games out of him... then it's a win... but if we pass on him when we could have, and he then goes on to play 150 games for someone else... then there are going to be a lot of people on here bitching and moaning about the fact we didn't get him and how shit SOS was for not getting him.

I personally think that if the possible benefits outweigh the potential risks... then we might as well have a go at getting him.

But nothing is black and white like you make it out to be so often.

It's just soreness though, nothing structurally is wrong with his knees. He just needs more time.
