Look at it from GC's perspective. They would love extra picks and write off an investment whereby their star gelding did rehab at another stable.

Gambling is for mugs. Hit the draft.

Man... every time you talk about something you are so black and white. You try and ram your opinions down our throats as if they were certified gold standard facts.

We would love to have a guy run out and play 10+ years for us every time we grab someone... sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't.

The team could run out on the ground on Sunday... Cripps could trip up on something and go down and do both his knees and never play again. It might not happen, but at this point, the odds of it happening are close to even. A seemingly innocuous injury could spell the end of a career in the blink of an eye. Look at what happened to Daisy. Tore a couple of ligaments in his ankle and he really hasn't been the same as he was pre-injury. He is moving like he used to, but he just isn't the same.

But we took a risk on him, he played 20 games in his first season... and then landed wrong and dislocated his shoulder and he was gone for pretty much the season. He has played 14 games this year.

If we take a risk on O'Meara and it pays off and he plays for the next 10 years and we get 150 games out of him... then it's a win... but if we pass on him when we could have, and he then goes on to play 150 games for someone else... then there are going to be a lot of people on here bitching and moaning about the fact we didn't get him and how shit SOS was for not getting him.

I personally think that if the possible benefits outweigh the potential risks... then we might as well have a go at getting him.

But nothing is black and white like you make it out to be so often.
Fair enough, if we recruit him, i will support him/not bitch and moan about it, i just dearly hope we don't give up our first rounder for him. I want us to keep that pick at all costs.

I'll give the JOM talk a rest now, probably waffled on about it a bit too much i admit, and apologies if i came across as bit of a pain on that issue :$

Back onto the GWS 4 trade, i'm still hopeful we can try get Hoskin-Elliott in that deal, i'm a big fan of his, hope SOS can convince him to join us.

If, diff, spliff, miff, gif ..........

Right now, he is going to be viewed as a risk, and a fairly high one as well.

If we pass on recruiting him based on the medical evidence and he plays 150 games for someone else then I for one won't be bitching & moaning about it. Yes, it will be annoying but in this instance, I put my trust in the people at the club to make the right decision and if that means not getting him, then I am good with that.

On the flipside, if we gave up #4 for him and he kept breaking down, then you'd hear me hollering from the highest point on the planet.

Right now, we are not in the high risk/speculative business, every recruiting decision has to be well thought out an in line with a long-term plan.

Surely we have learnt something by now from the ills of the past ??

Stick to your guns DVB !!

If that is your view on O'Meara and you truly believe in it, then don't be swayed by the others. Just because there are way more people in the pro-JOM camp than anti doesn't automatically mean they are right either.

Michael Jamison retired yesterday.
Source ??

Great news if true, another slot on the list opens up plus we have two players who were contracted for next year in retirement.

Nothing against Jamo, just assists with the rebuild if he does pull the pin (especially as he is struggling physically).

Great news that a club champion has retired early due to injury/illness?

Really?
I don't think that is what he said, I read it as great that another player who most likely won't be able to play again has made the decision to retire rather than just remain on the list for another year taking a spot that could be used on someone else.

I really doubt anyone would think the circumstances behind his retirement were great.

Agree on hoskin-elliott hes an excitement machine but with his injury issues as well .
Now if we are going to take somewhat of a risk on a player with injury issues H/E as steak knives in the GWS 4 deal would be it imo .

Cmon mate at least preface that statement thanking Jamo for his services!

But yes, him and Walker retiring certainly helps our rebuild with list spots and salary cap...i think they both had 1 more year to go right? Realistically they wouldn't have really contributed and it would have been a waste.

Anyone know if we will pay them under salary cap or outside it?

I don't understand nor agree with this logic when our only potential A-grade mids are >27yo and <22 yo.. Surely getting some talent in the middle bracket would greatly help our development.
My point is that those guys will cost a first round pick and more for some and quite a bit of coin each. I'm all for going after Steele or Marchback as I don't think either will cost a first round.

If crouch is only after $450-500k and is available for pick 22 and a third then I'm all for it.

We can trust our guys to be thorough you'd think.

Remember Sumner & Plowman have had constant injury issues during their time at GWS...and while they both had a few setbacks with us, both have played majority of games and have looked pretty good.
