With the retirements of Walker & Jamison, who were contracted till the end of 2017, the potential player turnover at the end of the season will have changed a little more than originally expected.

We have these players who have contracts expiring this year :

Kade Simpson
Dylan Buckley
Blaine Boekhorst
Dillon Viojo-Rainbow
Sam Rowe
Ciaran Sheehan
Jason Tutt
Mark Whiley
Clem Smith
Jayden Foster
Dennis Armfield
Billy Gowers
Matthew Dick
Nick Graham
Andrejs Everitt
Cameron Wood
Levi Casboult
Zach Touhy
Andrew Gallucci
Matthew Wright

Simpson, Boekhorst, Rowe, Armfield & Wright should get a contract extension, some of them may only be for the one year.

Viojo-Rainbow, Sheehan, Tutt, Whiley, Smith, Foster, Gowers, Dick, Wood & Gallucci are faced with being delisted

Buckley, Graham, Everitt, Casboult & Touhy may be traded or if there aren't better replacements found via trade or draft, could be offered new contracts (possibly just one-year).

Regardless of how the cake gets cut, its all shaping up to be around 12-14 player changes at the end of the season. However, it is looking like some players tenure will heavily rely on whether we can pull off another 4-for-1 deal (they could in fact be a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1) because there may not be enough solid cattle around this year to bring in overall.
Looks about right.

Being tactful de-listing players is never enjoyable, but when you look at that those names it's exciting to think how much better SOS can make our list...despite a big cull last year still lots of room for improvement (which shows how bad the MM regime were, but let's not get into that).

Personally would like to see Gallucci get another year...showed a bit in pre-season and then unfortunate injury...plays in a position we lack depth in cant see the harm of keeping him as a rookie.

Can't say i've watched any VFL games but in the reports Whiley always racks up the possessions, is named in the bests and gets a good report from Fraser in the player review so wouldn't mind if he stayed.

I hope we keep Buckley & Graham who have shown a bit in the last few weeks and seem to be improving with each game...something to work with there i think they're more valuable to us than anything we'd get in a trade for them.

Tuohy is important to our back 6 especially with Byrne out...only trade if it's part of a package that lands us a big name midfielder or forward.

I'd like to see us trade Casboult...he just doesnt have enough natural talent and is too one dimensional. Aerial contests is basically his only strength, and he hasn't even been doing much in that area either in the last month.

It aint malice TS it's a lack of respect and decency.

Lead off with a sort of commemoration or acknowledgement of Jamo's service before going all in on the list management stuff.

It's like saying good riddance to an old employee who had done year's of service but fallen behind recently. Sure they had to go, but you don't need to be rude about it

Where do you get off telling people how and what to post .
If commemoration and acknowledgement is your cup of tea then knock yourself out .
This is the list management thread and that's what the posts contained .

Jamo was always a bit of a mystery man at Carlton - our best defender for years and now quietly gone. Good luck and all the best for future endeavours a pity you and AW didn't retire with more success.
The way he and the club kept his 150th really quiet was weird too...it was joint with Simmo's 250th but so what?
Would have expected us to celebrate both, instead only Simpson got any plaudits and recognition in the week leading up to the game...im assuming it was a directive by Jamo to keep it so low key.

Yeah, Jamo said he wanted the day to be about Simmo and didn't want a fuss for himself.

Some people don't like being the centre of attention like that, it's understandable.

Good point.

It'd be a shame to fling the guy when he hasn't had the opportunity to strut his stuff thus far due to injury.

Given he is already on the rookie list, the club may consider a second year on the understanding that they want him to give them everything he's got. If he doesn't cut it after that, neither party would be aggrieved about a separation.

I reckon it will all depend on what happens to players on the main list as to how the rookie listed players are dealt with (ie. larger main list, smaller rookie list etc)

Thought if they retire their salary still counts somewhere, either this season or next. Makes a mockery of contracts if it doesn't.
Pretty sure the salary or part there of is still counted in the salary cap and if a player retires due to injury there is a compensation clause to prevent players from trying to keep pushing their bodies to fulfill their contracts if they are unable to.

Buddy's 9 year contract is worthless?

One logical way opf looking at this list is asking whichh players seem to be regular starting 22.

Simpson ( already agreed to stay) Armfield plays when fit, Casboult plays every week, Tuouhy gun, Wright plays every week Rowe.

Next players who have played

Buckley, Graham, Tutt Everitt

Leaves: Galluci, Wood, Dick, Whiley Gowers, Smith ( already gone?) Sheehan (injured always) Vojo Rainbow.

I make it 8 probably gone based on no appearances in firsts. Would like to see Sheehan retained.

The Club needs to get a starting 22 of quality first and then build up youth over the years.

The eight gone allows for GWS 3-4 mk11 and then 3-4 speculative picks.

After which back to speculation about trading starting players for better. (likely to developed mid/high draft pick mid and maybe a developed forward tall)

I reckon list rebuild will be 70-80 % done this year. Leaving following year for potential bigger name recruits as required.

After which it will be all about smart recruiting for a balanced list.

66 game of 3 year list rebuild was right - all going well.

In circumstances were the player is retiring due to legitimate injury and not being forced out by the club; the AFL waives the remaining extent of the contract from the Salary Cap. The player is still generally paid the salary. But it does not fall under the cap.

I.e - we'll have an extra 500-700k to play with next season with Jamison and Walker retiring.

I thought this was the List Management thread ??

I'm sure when it is made official, you will move this thread https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/40-michael-jamison.300080/ onto the main board where people can make their tributes etc.

It is but I can see you sitting behind your PC 'partying like it's 1999' whilst pumping your fists in the air with the 'great news'.
Woohoo lookey here another list spot!

Total lack of respect & typical reply I expected from you Sheik.

Great news that a club champion has retired early due to injury/illness?

Really?
It's not what you say but the way you say it that makes it just a little.............you know............not very nice.

You can do better TheSheik I trust you can.
Cmon mate at least preface that statement thanking Jamo for his services!

But yes, him and Walker retiring certainly helps our rebuild with list spots and salary cap...i think they both had 1 more year to go right? Realistically they wouldn't have really contributed and it would have been a waste.

Anyone know if we will pay them under salary cap or outside it?
Typically ordinary effort - you really think as long as you are looking at the long-term interests of the club you get away with pathetic shit like that?

Soooo Jamo has def retired then?
Absolutely loved the bloke but sadly along with Walker I didn't have him as part of the plan going forward in 2017.

TBH I wish Thomas would finish up as well.
And I am not a Thomas bashar either.
I just honestly think he doesn't offer anything anymore and he just breaks down way to often.

Don’t understand why people are jumping on Shiek.

Doesn’t appear he dislikes Jamison, he is just making the point that this creates another vacant spot on the list.

So, he didn’t come out initially and say ‘thanks for everything Michael’, it is hardly a hanging offense.

But then this is BF, a place where the mob rules.

TheSheik is perfectly capable of standing up for his own convictions--I highly doubt four or five people having a difference of opinion is a new scene for him!

It's not a 'mob' just because people disagree with you
