One week to go and delistings start coming into play.
Not much has changed over the past few weeks but at best guess:

Retired: Jamison Walker = 2

Likely Delistings: Dick Foster Smith Wood Gallucci Tutt= 6

Possible Delistings: DVR Whiley Sheehan = 3

Possible Trade-out: Graham Everitt Casboult Tuohy Buckley = 5

Possible Retirements: Rowe Armfield = 2

Not all of them will come about but if most of those trades come about, then it's not completely impossible.
I know that Buckley may have saved himself but if the want to move him on was there three weeks ago, would it have changed now?
I'm still putting Rowe and Armfield forward until such a time as they have been contracted. Rowe has triggered his clause for another but...
Rowe's been pretty good for us and played every game...can't see him being forced into retirement.

Even if for some reason we dont keep him, im sure another contending team would pick him up like Hawthorn picked up Brian Harris.

Mathieson is a staging, ducking scumbag, i'll give him shit until the day he retires. We need to stamp that shit out of the AFL

He's also a butcher with the ball

The irony here is that if he was at Carlton, he'd be your favourite player in a heartbeat.

Everyone is putting up Casboult in the trade basket, who is his likely suitor?? As i see it in terms of B grade key forwards who are available and gettable there is already Tyrone Vickery, John Butcher, Majak Daw & Levi. I am not certain Levi is any better than the other 3 and if we gave up anything more than a 3rd rounder for Vickery, Butcher or Daw people would be calling for SOS head.

Very close to my way of seeing things there Harks.

Your possible & likely delistings will all go except for Gallucci who may be given a reprieve due to his injury issues.

Rowe & Armfield could/should be given another year, they still offer us something and won't cost the world. Besides, the chances of getting a player with #129 to replace either one of them is questionable.

As for the trades, all of them to be moved on subject to the return coming our way. Buckley could be given an extra year as it appears the penny may have finally dropped for good, a spell in the magoos can have that affect. Added to that, playing him as a wingman/high half forward suits him way better than as a dedicated defender or small forward. This also many be a reason for him to be given one last lifeline.

Around this time next year, none of them will be at the club anyway (unless there has been a massive attitude & consistency transformation from Buckley), we will be going into the 2017 trade & draft period with some specific needs and wants but the numbers won't be as high as last year or this year.

Who cares who his suitor is ?? All we care about is that there is one somewhere.

The club is looking like they are "trying" to keep Casboult by putting a new contract under his nose but not at the level his manger & him were expecting.

Another club will come in and make a better offer and we will say "sorry Levi, we can't match that deal, we recommend you take it".

I rate Levi only an early third rounder. Vickery is a free agent and that's the only reason for the whispers.

Butcher has achieved far less and has only been kept around to save face on a draft blunder. He would not have gotten game time if P*ddy R*der had been eligible to play.

Majak is an exciting prospect but without a position. Due to his impressive leap he's been thrown into the ruck but I see him as more a poor man's Adam Goodes than a Drew Petrie.

But it was absolute gold when he ducked yesterday while being tackled by Joel Selwood.

I nearly wet myself laughing when Selwood started complaining about the free kick!!!!!!

Funnily enough Kreuzer has been more durable and reliable than Nic Nat. Nic Nat can jump high and tap to advantage alright... but he's been injured a lot and now out for another 12 months with his knee. With his biggest asset his leap and now injuring his main jumping knee wonder if Nic Nat will come back the same. Me thinks not.

i liked the look of gallucci in the pre season so would be happy to get another year. i think rowe has a couple of years in him. fills an important role and is flexible. armfield may get one more year. looking forward to trade week & national draft and adding another 10 plus new talented names to the list

I do find it a little ironic that an injury plagued team like Footscray would be interested in a player that has most of his career damaged by injuries.

Of course he may have turned a corner, but his history combined with his not exactly exciting stats would seem a risk for them. Don't get me wrong, I love him and know what he brings, but yeah.

Buckley will get another year, and I'm pretty sure Rowe and Armfield are well into contract talks?

I feel he'll be let go and maybe especially so if we do grab Kerbatieh.

Pretty confident in saying that Rowe and Armfield will be given the choice of another year.........it's whether they accept it or now.

I think a lot of contracted guys would have been signed on with a view that we might trade them if the right deal came up. Puts us in a better bargaining posistion.
I think we are going to see more of this from all clubs when the circumstance permits. In this era of more player power, clubs need to get whatever leverage they can muster.

I really rate phillips - i love the way he attacks the ball in the air. he'll come good. Persistance.
His game time numbers are a worry.

With his biggest asset his leap and now injuring his main jumping knee wonder if Nic Nat will come back the same. Me thinks not.
NicNat has enough athleticism to reinvent himself if required. Will want to lose about 5-10 kilos though, if only to decrease joint stress.

Agree with all of that, but I would just caution one thing (not aimed at you, Harks).

Some posters look at that list and say we could shed 18 players this year. But being 'cutable' is not the same as 'will be cut'.

I think there is a process

- First you target the ones that may get you some trade value
- Next you target the ones that you are sure will never make it
- And only then do you make it to the borderline/limited players.
- Some of these will be kept on the list for another year just by the sheer weight of numbers sent packing before them.

So maybe only 2/3 of that list get shown the door at the end of the year.

There is a bit of interest for Matty over on the Dog's board. Someone mentioned their second rounder and Jong for him. That would make an interesting scenario.
If a deal like that was offered, I reckon we'd take it especially if the rumour that we are talking to Longer at the Saints is true.

Nothing against Kreuzer at all, he bleeds for the club all the time. However, he could play finals straight away and be part of a successful team before he hangs up the boots, we may not be able to give him that.

For us, a young midfielder (could be Jong or one of the others, not fussed which) plus a second-rounder to do some trade deals with would be a good result going forward.

EDIT : Dogs do have some problems in the ruck department. They have young kid Goetz who is yet to play a game, Minson who will be 32yo next year & Campbell who is shouldering the load but is out injured now. The only relief they have is if they throw Boyd in there which is not a permanent option.
