Ah, people with those leadership skills tend to be loyal to the club they're at
Ablett, Judd, Danger, Griffen, Malceski, Dal Santo, Goddard, Beams, Cooney.
Now you can debate some of those names, but the point is there are various reasons/ways that players of that ilk can end up on your list.

Well you could just list every player that's ever been traded, but Soapy V was asking after a Hodge-like leader

Because he wants to move to Melbourne, barracked for the club as a Kid, and we're offering him more money now and are in a better position to offer even more in the future.
Thing is, he's already on silly money as it is.

If barracking for the club was important to him, he would of jumped ship when we came calling the last time.

Just a hypothetical but you have got to be pretty happy with this team, so early in our rebuild. Following doesn't include players 27+ so doesn't even inc Gibbs. I've taken some liberty to assume we get Prestia and get Ainsworth :

Docherty Glass-McCasker Plowman
Touhy Weitering Byrne

Boekhorst Cripps Cuningham
Kreuzer Prestia E.Curnow

Ainsworth C.Curnow Sumner
Silvagni Casboult McKay

Int Sheehan Buckley Jaksch Kerridge Graham Lamb DVR Phillips Wright

I don't even inc Whiley Smith Dick Gorringe

In all honesty I would out Tuohy on the market. I think he's overrated and would fetch something decent at the trade table. And I think we can replace him with Sheehan. That's the key.

I'd definitely try and trade Everitt.

And you always see if there's any decent interest in Casboult. Someone mentioned Redpath. If you can get Redpath for a third rounder and you offload Casboult for a second rounder that's a win IMO.

If you don't like Sydney as a place to live long term, you would explore other options, particularly if your heart is in Melbourne. The two cities are chalk & cheese (Melbourne is far more liveable). I wouldn't be ruling out Mitchell wanting a move.
Quite possibly but i think it would be rare for a player to leave a club in a premiership window. If Mitchel decided to leave the Swans and return to Melbourne why would he choose us? Any club challenging for top 4 or a flag is ahead of us and we are last in the que.

Devil's advocate ....

Hopefully we won't be reigning wooden spooners at the end of the year.

Didn't Chris Judd leave Wesr Coast a year after they won a flag and come to the 2nd last Carlton?

The article says we are banking on homesickness. Sure it says he has friends in Sydney but his family is in Melbourne. Judd had friends in Perth and his girlfriend's family were in Perth.

Plus we may not be looked at purely on ladder position but on rebuild progress and coaching philosophies.
Quite possible but Judd is was very different. He had already achieved a Brownlow medal, a norm smith, a premiership, i'm guessing a BandF or two so he had accomplished everything at the Eagles. It also helped we were able to offer more than everyone else for Judd. Add to that the huge amount we paid to get him pick 3, Josh kennedy and a pick around 20.
Mitchell is a star and as much as i would love him i wouldn't like to break the bamk and trade away our future to get him.

Who said that it was because of the money this time around? The last time we supposedly offered a bit of money, but this time I think it would be different as we are developing a new culture, as you said. Besides, as he turned down a big $ offer last time I don't think it would work this time around. We would need a different tactic, and I think Bolton with the new culture are exactly that.
Good players don't leave a club in the premiership window to go to a club at the bottom of the ladder. Unless the Swans win the flag this year he will stay.

Yeah, nah. Yes if we get overs. Replacing with Sheehan? Not enough exposed form to judge.

I read when we tried to get him across last time he was already on $450,000 a year at the Swans, you would think the Swans would make a slightly improved offer for his next deal. Every Victorian club will me inquiring about him, offering him more coin than the Swans. My point was, why choose us if you have 9 clubs in a better position than us wanting you. We would have to offer $750,000 at least

Forwards: 2 KPF, 2 crumbing forwards, 1 marking medium (5)

If we guess that Curnow, Cuningham, McKay, Silvagni, Graham, Plowman and Phillips meet the grade:

Backs: 1 KPD, 0 Floating tall, 2 Rebounding Defenders (3)
Midfield: 0 Primary Ruck, 1 Backup Ruck, 2 Inside mids, 2 Outside Mids (5)
Forwards: 0 KPF, 2 crumbing forwards, 0 marking medium (2)
I think Mckay is the only KPF out of that bunch, with Silvagni and Curnow being mid/fwds, but nice post

We have an extra 3rd round pick this year don't we? Be good if we can turn both our 3rd rounders into a 2nd rounder.

Not sure how it can be a good side.

From the eyes of a neutral

Docherty, Who?, Has barely played
Touhy, Weiering, Who?
Boekhorst, Cripps, Who?
Overated ruckman, GCS player, 26yo list clogger
Who?, Who?, Who?
Who?, List clogger, Who?

A team full of players that have barely played a game, are list cloggers, play for other clubs or are still in the TAC cup does not look good.
