I really don't want to give up pick 5
That seems to be the popular option among the posters here. But I see it slightly differently....

In reality, we are going to give up pick 5 in the end.
We give it up to get a player. We swap picks for players. That's what the picks are for. Hopefully the best player we can get with said pick.
Therefore, Does it matter if that player is a kid in the draft or JOM? Or Prestia? Or Mitchell or whoever?
We need make an assessment as to which player gives us the most value for our pick.
If you have $10 in your pocket, you're not limited to only buying goods from one shop. You can spend it in any shop that gives you the best value for your money...

Let's see what late next year may look like........I know this means nothing, but just a trial.

Backline:
Simpson Rowe Plowman
Docherty Marchbank Byrne..........I know, the knee. Tuohy to be traded. Simpson has at least 2 years left. Fingers crossed we hang onto Sheehan.

Forward-line:
CCurnow Weitering Sumner
Silvagni Casboult Wright..............Not earth shattering at this point in time, but plenty of scope for development. McKay to slot in later.

Next year is even more about development than this year was.
This year we learned what we needed to....next year we have to seed those learnings.

Weitering is going to go forward..........I think :)
God no - not another year of Casboult at FF!
Marchbank and Byrne are both injured (yes I know you mentioned Byrne).
It would be mid year before that line up was possible

I suspect GWS needed to free up a list spot last year and felt Sumner will not be the same player they drafted after his navicular injury, so they packaged him in GWS4 deal at reduced cost to us. Pickett with his Lisfranc injury or Ahern with his ACL packaged in with Marchbank may allow us to pick up Marchbank for our 2nd rounder instead of the mid 1st rounder he is probably worth. We can afford to allow an extra list spot to be taken by an injured player for 12 months if it allows us to get high end talent on our list for less than market value.
Problem is we are getting 3 injured players who may all give nothing on field, and clog our list.
Hopefully our list is only clogged for a year OR best case they come good.
If GWS want pick #5 we should say no IMO.

This probably belongs in the "snark" thread, but The first year I coached my son, he did his ACL. After 12 months of rehab, he returned to the team.
He went from being a contested ball animal to not being able to get near it. His confidence in the knee and his ability was shot.
I became impatient as a coach and as a father. Dropped him back to the twos
What ? You have a 2nd reserves family ????

Or is it more a 'Development' family ??

All get games in the worst forward line in the league barring brisbane! Jones couldnt get a game at a club screaming out for kpf and everett is at his 3rd club? Casboult gets a game for his marking and basically youse have no one else like i said curnow and mckay stay fit they wont be getting a game
Greg Williams played at 3 clubs does that mean he was a shit footballer?
