Lol

I always find it funny how people want to match up our players with the opposition like that.
It's an effective way to visualize what types of players are needed to emulate the benchmark and how suggested potential incoming players matchup to said benchmark.

Nothing sneaky at all. He's not contracted......clubs have enquired......so who knows?

The Fyfe talk next year, is finally starting to surface.
Andy Maher very coy on what he knows about the whole thing.

Wow clubs have enquired about Bucks I'm surprised. Not saying that I don't rate him but he hasn't quite put it all together yet has he.?

Also what's your thoughts on Fyfe, do you think that we as a club in the middle of a reset would be ready for a player like Fyfe? I'm not too sure myself it may be a year or possibly 2 early..

Presupposes he will be. What if he slips out of the first round into the 20-30s?

I know and this could be the case but have a look at my points above, as to what I see coming about soon enough.

Once we can trade two years in advance and have another year to look at the youth, we'll be in a much better position to make clear decisions.

Fyfe is still young. By next year we'd be in the PRIME location for a 24-27 year old super star

Interesting to hear that Brett Anderson - serial U18 watcher - is not sold on ANY of the players in this year's draft. Reckons that unlike previous years there is plenty of potential but no 'sure things'. May well be that SOS is of the same mindset....

My guess is Dodoro is thinking the same thing and Essendon will be up to shenanigans

Which side of the fence was SOS on for the first deal?

Which side is he on now?

From what I've heard, SOS actively discouraged us from chasing Jacksch citing the work ethic issues that are abundantly clear now. Rogers wanted his man and SOS's advice was brushed to the side.

Andrew McKay and Adrian Gleeson are the two of the luckiest men in (still in) football. Any other professional organisation would have booted them by now

What indication has there been on either of those things eventuating?

I've heard some "experts" suggest that raising the draft age would be a good thing, but never anything more than that. And there's been no talk of trading two years in advance, from any source, as far as I'm aware.

Clubs ask a lot of questions about a lot of players, so it doesn't really mean too much.

I do though feel that should something around a #30 be on the cards for Dylan, he may have to pack his bags. It's possible.

One of them MUST be a top 10 pick.

Not necessarily. We'd obviously love pick 7 to come with Caleb but that seems unlikely.

As things stand currently GWS holds picks 15 and 16 this year. Marchbank + those 2 picks or Marchbank + 1 of them + a 2017 1st round pick for pick 5 and a 2nd round pick could be a good result for us.

Allows us to get our man + maintain a strong presence in the next few drafts with 3 picks inside the first round.

This is what I'm suggesting:

We trade our 2017 first now, knowing it will come back to us next year, for our 2018 first.
I know that may sound odd, but maybe only because it hasn't been done before and it's not exactly allowed, as things stand right now.

We may not need our first rounder as much in 2018 knowing Ben will be a very high commodity in his draft year.

I know it's not easy and that it may be hard to agree upon, with so many unknowns attached, but we will have to be think this way in the not too distant future when:

1. We can trade picks up to 2 years in advance.
2. When the draft age is raised to 19.

I like your thinking it will certainly be a catalyst for creative recruiting and we desperately need it and some luck too
We've been down and out for too long. Exciting new players will deliver wins and more hope, respect and enthusiasm the very things Silvagni & Bolton are nurturing.

I have been saying this for weeks.

Trade out of 2016 and into 2017 and only go to this year's draft with the minimum selections required (Taranto, Kerr & the Byrne upgrade).

Really?

As a gws employee at the time would he really discourage Rogers from getting him when he would be getting his club a good deal??

Maybe a slight comment as he knew he was coming to Carlton but gws wouldn't be happy to learn about that if true.

Sorry, are you suggesting we should take Motlop or #20 ??

I really hope it isn't Motlop, I've said my piece on him in a finals thread.

As for #20, are we going to get a player ready to play senior footy from the get-go though ?? I can't see it and therefore, would rather opt for two players who are readymade senior players and can play seniors next year.

Not sure why it matters if they are good to go next season, it's not like we are challenging for finals. Lots of players even top 10 picks do t always play straight up.

If the pick is top 25 I want it used at the draft.

I must say, I much prefer this talk of going after Fyfe a lot more than chasing Wright. GC losing Wright would be diabolical for them, he would cost us our first pick and I don't see any way around that. I know we need quality big men but I don't want to see us using all our quality resources on lumbering types whilst neglecting quality runners.

Fyfe as a free agent (especially if Freo have a bad year as they will get very good compensation for him) and a top 5 draft pick is infinitely better than Peter Wright on his own. Every team will be chasing Fyfe hard but wow, how awesome would it be seeing him play for Carlton.

Reading BTW the lines the best thing SOS did last year was he got 10 n 12 and did the maths and knew he could get McKay and Charlie whom he wanted

Very clever

Did the deals but also had his finger on the pulse in regards to where kids would fall in the top dozen on draft night

Which kid is going to be caught drink driving in draft week this year..
