I'll have to disagree with you there. He has put in a few nice kicks in here and there, but so has Casboult ;)

After seeing Gorringe again I seriously question his recruiting as he has little hope of playing 50 games for us.

Agree, I can also see why we did it: if we get his confidence and awareness up, he's going to be a monster up forward. It's an 18-month project, I wouldn't get too disheartened at this point.

Positivity like yours is the only thing keeping me going sometimes, Jimmaefidamedes.........

Haha I know it seems like a big call, but he can kick a football and he's not a plodder, so if Bolts is half as good as he seems, it's just a matter of time. The rest is down to Gorringe's willingness to work, which doesn't seem wanting.

People just need to dispense with the idea that he's a ruckman. He'll do a job at ground stoppages when called upon, but he's never really had the leap and technique to do real damage at AFL level.

Agree Gorringe and all the other GWS boys will need a couple of years.
They all have their strengths but the class is their to tap , hopefully they settle into the team this year and will be able to show their progress 2017 onwards.

It's been a long time since he has played a senior game, but I recall a couple of occasions where he not only selected the right target and hit them, but actively forced them into a better position to take the mark. Players who can do that are genuine footballers who understand how to use space well. That's why I'm hoping he gets a good run on the injury front and gets a game.

If I get bored this arvo I might try going through the four or so games he played and pull out the vision of him into one short YouTube clip. I should be studying and writing essays but that can clearly wait...

Not really a Carlton topic, but has anyone heard anything lately about the situation with Cameron McCarthy? With hindsight have GWS made a blunder in not trading him considering if he sits out the season or most of it he will be worth sweet FA come trade time and no club except one from WA will go near him. Thoughts?

Just as Mitch Clark didn't make it to Freo & Kurt Tippett didn't make it to the Gold Coast, McCarthy to WA should not be considered a foregone conclusion.

I think he'd be more than good, ala Nick Riewoldt, but completely agree that you play your best players in their best positions until circumstances dictate otherwise.

With Gorringe, Curnow and McKay brought in to play tall forward roles, and Casboult, Everitt, Foster and even Jones already existing, there's simply no need.
I would have thought 3 of that list in gorringe who is a Ruckman has no idea in key posi or as a linkman foster and Jones are nowhere near getting a game and if so where in real trouble and McKay is out for 12 weeks . The sooner the likes of curnow glass/mccasker and mckay come on the better .

Mr Medium, Mitch Clark didn't want to go to Freo and Tippett didn't want to go to the Gold Coast, McCarthy wants Freo and Freo want him, unless he does a huge backflip or WC offer a huge deal then i see no other option. Unless you know something i don't?

Mitch Clark wanted Fremantle until Melbourne offered him almost twice as much as Fremantle could offer him.
Kurt Tippett wanted Gold Coast until Sydney offered him significantly more than what Gold Coast were willing to offer him.

Both decisions were made for monetary reasons. There is potential that the same thing could happen again with McCarthy. Personally, I hope that we're not the club that's willing to do an overpay on an unprofessional athlete.

Mitch Clark was homesick til Melbourne offered more cash. I actually agreed with GWS holding firm and still do. Not a fan of the way McCarthy has handled himself. You can't let players sign a contract extension then say they are homesick (coincidentally when home state club offers huge contract after purple patch) in the space of 5 months. If they had known he wanted to return home, those funds could have been redirected to retaining say a treloar. And with freo going after bennell as well, they really couldn't offer a trade that would satisfy gws for a KPF with 2 years to run on contract.

You got it.

We all know that we just missed out on Tomlinson last year and that we're likely to be having another hit at him this year.

I understand the lure of his athletic profile but has Tomlinson ever shown more than potential, to date?
I may be wrong but I just don't recall him really taking any game apart. He's had some O.K. games but I don't recall many...if any...stand out games.

This may not be particularly fair but going through Tomlinson's games his best games have come in either 8+ goal wins or 8+ goal losses. The only two games that particularly standout statistically to me are rounds 16 and 17 last year.

GWS lose to Geelong at StarTrack oval by 27 points in a low scoring game. Tomlinson leads GWS with 10 marks and 16 disposals kicking 1.2 - their leading scorer that day as well.

GWS beat Gold Coast by 15 points at Metricon. This was a super high possession (GWS had 384 disposals, 9 players with 20+ possessions) and chippy game (121 total GWS marks) - Tomlinson gets 18 and 9.

Personally from what I've seen of Tomlinson - my own personal eye test - his potential is Lachie Henderson. Has the potential/quality to heavily impact a handful of games throughout his career and is a very handy player to have in your team but overall is not a game changer.
