langdon in sunday times today saying we shouldn't get pick 1 for coming last. should go to 9th.

not a peep on this topic in 2010 when wc got the spoon then went top 4 the next year.

i fn hate hypocrits. zero credibility

Should call into 6pr tomorrow and give him a piece of your mind. I would do it, except they might dump my call as soon as I opened my mouth.

Give it to 9th my ass. There is a reason why the number 1 pick goes to last. It's not a consolation prize for just missing out on the finals.

Karl continues to extract every last drop of benefit from his extraordinary physical adroitness.
Unheard of levels of expertise in autofellatio.
The man's a hero!

I saw Karl play and would often get him confused with Matera - the older one. We used to say, there's Wally Matera, and there's Karl aka Wally Material.

Listen to Rosich on Sen and also ABC interviews last Saturday may 28th. The club backed current list to get to finals again in 2016. There was realisation that list needed refreshing at end of year. But after RD4-5 this yr it was apparent that major surgery was required used the word "rebuild" numerous times on both interviews. On ABC Duffield asked him if it was going to be as radical as 2008 when 14 new faces came in. Wouldn't committ to a No but indicated it would be a significant overhaul. Also mentioned on both interviews that they have been/are in discussions with player managers about attracting talent to the Dockers and are happy how these discussions are proceeding.

Not sure if Langond said it himself or not, but that idea has been around the traps a fair bit long before this year. It's a dumb idea, but I personally see merit in a lottery. But that's another story.

A lottery is pointless for AFL. Its not like the NBA where one player usually 21 or 22 yo can make so much of a difference. AFL selections are 17 or 18 with so much more variables on if they will make it. First pick is more of a lottery than the lottery. Sides to not try to come last.

The issue is stupid media who think that number 1 pick is 50% better than number two pick so teams will do anything to "win" it. In reality it's at best 5% better and probably less. The club wants to win v Essendon. There will be stories all week about this being sides trying to lose written by idiots. Both teams will be trying hard to win.

Seriously, I know the AFL is bad but they would have the pants sued off them if they changed the draft this year. So many articles talking nonsense to sink the boots in.

If that got up, I would be on the first train to the city to AFLHQ and I would find a way to rip the shit out of them. It would be a disgusting proposal and would be the last confirmation needed that the AFL doesn't want a successful Fremantle.

Where was all this outrage whenever the eagles did one of their yoyo bounces down to the bottom of the ladder for one year?

I remember everyone defending them in 08 because apparently their dip was justified due to losing Cousins and Judd in one year. I think losing Fyfe, Sandi, Mundy, MJ, Bennell, and Pearce more than covers that.

I don't mind Hardie but the last bit should have had some context added:

Looking at the performances of Fremantle, Brisbane and Gold Coast, it's very easy to say the players aren't getting the job done and are down-on-form. But the coaches shouldn't escape scrutiny either. Isn't it just as easy for a coach to be off the ball as it is a player?

Gold Coast had just three players on their list that were fit and not playing seniors on the weekend. How the heck are they expected to be competitive with so many out? I think they did well considering. We on the other hand have our best ruck, our three best mids and our best two key defenders out, as well as trying to play a different brand of football that the AFL has somewhat enforced on us this year with the rule changes but somehow us losing equates to 'tanking'.

I don't disagree with our coaches and players should be being able to perform better but surely it's reasonable to provide the football community with the full context of what situations these clubs find themselves in for a more balanced pov...? Sorry, forgot it was the Victorian football media. Where is the talk of Essendon not deserving a good draft pick because them having players out is of their own causing? Victorian club... hmmm... different rules apply obviously.

We have our best two players out injured and three of the next best 5. No club would be winning with that much top end talent out.

But Freo are tanking. Freo out of form (although some pkayers are struggling). But no mentions of this. No context in any discussions.

Interesting that with 6PR ratings dropping, Both Langdon and Hardie are working hard atm to p1ss off supporters of one of the two local AFL teams which would be a large chunk of their listeners (since it is the sport they talk about the most during (and even out of) season). Some bright sparks there. I have stopped listening lately, surprisingly enough, because in spite of having to endure losing every game and seeing so many injuries to key players, now we have a local (WTF!) media push to take the one thing away that gives us supporters hope for this year. In addition, we have a lack of awareness by the 'experts' that maybe the losses are due to the injuries and having to change gameplan because the AFL changed the way the rules were to be interpreted this year because of the success that Freo was having around stoppages in 2015. Fk me we have put up with a lot in our past, and they still keep throwing it at us. You'd think they actually would want us to win one just for the large number of supporters in WA.

I actually think a draft order that takes a longer period than the single year may have some merit, but it could have serious issues too - can you imagine GWS getting even more higher draft picks over the next few years!!

In any case, if the AFL are truly keen to go that way and had any sensibilities about it (I know, LOL) they would phase it in over a few years, not pick just one year to slam it on. That just makes no sense.

Is there any proof that the AFL is considering this proposal or is it just the media?? I was out of the country for a fair while and might have missed the AFL articles.

This year is full of so many rubbish agendas, I can't believe some journos stake their credibility by pushing them.

Firstly it's Ross Lyon can't develop a list. Now when he tries he's accused of tanking. Even when we were playing our youth, there were calls for youth to be played. WTF??

Now it's Pav's turn to be patronized. Ok, he is not in great form, but driving the agenda he retire is insulting. And if he does retire, we'd further be accused of tanking for playing an underdone Apeness.

And finally - not even a small amount of lip service is being paid to our injury toll. Harley Bennell even got his own agenda a few weeks back, rather than the focus on the overall lack of depth in the list. But yep, were tanking and I fully agree that the AFL should revisit the draft as a direct consequence.

The media can GAGF, 2016 can GAGF and if the AFL revisit draft rules mid season they can seriously GAGF.

Just media speculation as far as I can tell. Nothing to get too upset about at this stage.

Every year there's some talk about tanking and draft picks etc. Hasn't been as much of it in recent years because the same few teams have been at the top and at the bottom respectively. Suddenly last year's minor premiers and the second most winning team in 4-5 years is at the bottom and in a big way; well people with nothing better to do and who are effectively paid to attract attention are going to start writing about it again.

Finally someone has said it! Read the whole story for context but this bit really stuck out, a lot along the same lines as a few posts in this thread recently.

http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/15841553/no-tanks-ross-lyon-man-rebuild-dockers

Five years on, the schadenfreude is palpable as Lyon suffers on the bottom, bellowing at his players to lay a tackle at Etihad Stadium last weekend. He has taken no prisoners in the media world, Rossy, and they don't forget easily. Nobody in football draws such strong emotions from the media and fans, and he is not hearing much sympathy.

Balanced and realistic piece from Martin Blake I'll look out for him.
Of all the comparisons I've heard between Lyon and Clarkson most conclude Clarkson's superior by virtue of his flags.None discuss what Lyon may have achieved with Hawthorn's list and infrastructure or what they think Clarkson may have managed at the helm of our list the past 4 years.
Impossible hypothetical to solve but it's the comparison which would tell the tale of the tape.
I don't think Lyon would be playing his defensive style with the Hawks list and I think Clarkson may have been playing something more similar the Lyon model if he was managing our list for the period.
I think they're the two best in the league at the minute but I don't necessarily believe there's much between them.
I guess we'll get some insight into the conundrum as Lyon will presumably be more involved in recruitment/drafting to get the types he sees as being suited to the direction the game is headed in??
Just finking in print...

Long one covering various topics. Less running in the preseason is one of the issues they've pinpointed down there.

Fyfe, Sandi

Walters and Pav are the only players to have played 6 games of our best 8 players.

You have named 9! And Neale if definitely in the top 8.

Not sure Pav makes the top 10 these days.

Although given the form of the others I'm at a loss to say who does.

I was always going to miss one.

Only 3 players out of our best 10 have played 80% of games.
