Mutton Chops a good mate for ole Crumpet Face.

So we're reporting this as fact now? Couldn't get past the first sentence.
I was struggling to find a point to this article. Would be interesting to see how mutton would write it if it was Nicnat instead: "Sporting greatness personified selflessly bringing our game to the Americas at great personal sacrifice"

The desire and level of Freo bashing by the WA media, (shouldn't by now) but can still sometimes manage to surprise me.
We have a brilliant hard working WA born and bred AFL Superstar who gets portrayed as an unliked money hungry opportunist. They really are finding new lows aren't they?

C'mon Cuz or Kerreee, it's about time one or both of you did something to get back in the headlines.

The eagles supporter who first made it up on here must be pissing himself how much it's taken off.

Am I the only one that's a little tired of brand fyfe ... Going to the states to train internationally with athletes to get the edge and it media worthy. Really. Love the bloke as a player and freo player first and foremost. Just getting to wanky stage a little

You are in a very small group.
Does this have anything to do with the article that Mutton Chops wrote? He has the same journalistic integrity as Kim Hagdorn. i.e. vanishingly small.

I think everyone even Freo supporters feel it a little bit and it's one of the reasons why the media keeps talking about players not liking him. They are just projecting their own opinions and trying to justify them.

So I remember I think last year Crozier went to the US and had selfies taken with NBA players and that was all good fun but now Fyfe does something it is all sinister and a sign he is leaving

Yes, you are.

Fyfe wants to make the most of his life; how dare he.

Pure unadulterated tall poppy syndrome from the pathetic journos who hate that Freo has a better player that they could have drafted.
They've been incredibly gentle on Cousins and Kerr despite that they are addicts/alcoholics and in Kerrs case a violent stalker. Even Chick is treated relatively gently.
That even some of our supporters are starting to cringe is testament to both the media and the tall poppy syndrome. What has Fyfe actually don't wrong? Attempted to give an honest and intelligent answer when repeatedly asked the same question and been impatient when other players don't want to train and prepare as hard as he does. Both things which could have been spun in a positive light to show what a straight talking pro footballer he is.
But no suddenly Freo has a prima donna and some people are stupid enough to swallow the bullshit.

No issues with that at all. Just his approach is as cringy as nic nat at times and we jump on him very quickly.

Or do you mean; the approach of the press is cringeworthy with both players?

Do we jump on Nick Natanui or do we jump on the gulf between his playing ability and his popularity? To be honest, that gulf has closed a fair bit over the last two seasons. The triviality of news stories about NicNat is the biggest problem.

In Nathan Fyfe's case he is the most outstanding player of the last three years, taking over that title from Gary Ablett junior. So there isn't such a gulf between reality and reporting.
The diffference for Fyfe is that he plays for Fremantle. So bitter no-talent hacks with an axe to grind like mutton chops (haven't learnt his name yet, so run the risk of pressing click bait by him) and Hagdorn will do their best to change the public perceptions of him. It appears to be working for some of the goldfish brains on this forum, at least.

Just remember last year. He won a Brownlow playing half a season with an injury. In the first half of the season (before Mitchell's knee) he gained more Brownlow votes than ever before and dragged his team over the line again and again. Football is a team game, but Fyfe's individual influence was huge.

And what is so "cringy"? That he wore a nice suit and cane to the Brownlow, and gave an eloquent and funny speech? That he is travelling to the US in his off season and is checking out other sports? That he has been sitting in the coaches or sponsors boxes during Freo games? (Would you rather he was in London drinking beer while recovering from injury?) That he would like to drag his club to a premiership, and that players like Neale use him as a role model? That he is still a young bloke who posts a couple of things on instagram? That he has sponsors that he must promote?

At my work, there is a person who claims to be a Freo supporter (but never goes to a game) who came out a few weeks ago and claimed that "Fyfe is a cancer". He doesn't have too much ability in the realm of critical thought and believes every News Ltd articles he reads, so I assume this comment was in response to an article by Andrew Bolt claiming that Global warming is all Fyfe's fault and nothing to do with burning fossil fuels and deforestation.
Needless to say, there is not much common ground between us.

Ok, I'll bite. I don't have an issue with how Fyfe conducts himself in the media wrt his contract. Apart from hoping he just signs rather than defer.

But from that article it suggests Nat is selling the opportunity to go on tour with him, train like him and occasionally be in the same room as him - no doubt for a princely sum to Hype tours.

Maybe it's me, maybe it's my Gen X age or maybe it's because I'm not Nat Fyfe but I'm not cool with any sportsperson literally selling tickets of themselves. I don't want to hang with Fyfe, and I sure as shit couldn't train like him. I just want to see him playing footy in purple.

Its just an opinion. And it worth the diatribe of that last post, probably not.

Maybe you wouldn't but some people would. A lot of younger guys (probs with rich parents) would do it.

Fyfe is an absolute role model and if not the most popular afl player right now. Jealous old guys in the media feel the need to put him down because he's got what they all want. It's the old "Men want to be him and women want to be with him." Tall poppy syndrome. My friend and I were talking about this and he said it's exactly like when the media were rubbishing Ablett for his captain skills. The media have to find a story on these elite players..it can't possibly be true that they're all just hard working nice guys, there must be something else to it!

True Freo supporters don't give a toss what the media or anyone else thinks of Fyfe. Don't try to fit me in your bag of Fyfe dislikers.
