Did anyone grab a listen to Hackdorn on PR Sun morning. His take on the Lyon's contract ext was that Freo have realised they are into a slide and have no chance of the top 4 this year and that Lyon was given the extra time to rebuild to a cup. Interesting concept considering Ross has stated we are in the season,s cup chance up to our necks . Also Hackdorns take dispells the opinions that Ross can't rebuild a side. Three questions ,are we out of the top 4 race and can Ross rebuild a side with minimal damage to our future finals hopes or is Hackdorn full of shit?

Lyon signed on because I doubt his reputation could take it if he left us for another club with a better list. I think it's as simple as that.

Hmm.. Ross strikes me as the bloke who doesn't much care for the opinions others have of him.

There are actually plenty of other options for successful coaches - they just say they are tired and need a break, like Thompson, Worsfold or Roos.
The simpler explanation for Lyon is he's settled, well-paid and optimistic.

I actually believe what Lyon said at the announcement and on follow up interviews, he and his family are happy here, it is a well resourced club, good list, and he wants some stability. And let's face it, we would be paying him well.

On the flip side, I wouldn't be surprised if the Freo management extended him so early due to being worried about other clubs coming sniffing. Richmond and North being the two that I would have been worried about if I was Rosich.

The thing I like about Ross is that his probably the most honest and elaborate coach in the AFL-when he gets a good question. Ask him good questions and you'll get good answers. You just hardly ever see it, because 99% of the questions journos ask are s***. He treats them with the disdain they deserve (which is glorious)

Thanks for posting that, I caught the last part of the interview and was meaning to see if I could find it to hear the first part.

My favourite part 'I don't care what they drink, who they date, how they wear their hair as long as they buy into the principles, I'll leave them' Ross Lyon treating his players like adults.
