Not going to be all melodramatic or anything, this concerns me a bit though.

I'd have thought disgruntled members over Mick's appointment, his time in charge, or Ratt's sacking, would be back on board now. Surely we have a fan base that can produce 55/60k...

I'm probably way off base but I wonder if this is a sign of a new generation? We've been no further than semi finals in 15 years, it's an age in footy speak, one which we've sunk to pretty low depths on two occasions now.

Kids are taught more than ever to think for themselves, to challenge things often. Maybe the kid following the parent/s choice of footy club is dying. And yeah, I'm really reaching here.

Comparing us to other clubs is the thing that bothers me. All at a time where we have a new coach, fresh ideas, the foundations of a good, modern game plan (finally), stability off field, media dept doing wonders...etc etc.

What's the go Carlton folk? There's exciting new talent but it's young, be patient and back us in, enjoy watching the young boys for now. Don't just jump on in the good times. Our club needs us.

Like I said, not melodramatic at all...

Shows a real lack of dedication from parents I think, why wouldn't you just keep churning those kids over until you got ones that want to support Carlton.

When I was four my Dad said I could barrack for anyone I wanted to, but could only live with him & my Mum if it was Carlton.

Shows why society has gone to shit now, children shouldn't have choices. It's wrong.

You own'em, they should do what you tell'em.

Precisely. Kids should be seen but not heard. And always go for Carlton. It ain't hard!!

I don't have kids, but when I do I see no possible scenario that they won't go for Carlton.

I'll happily bin any st kilda merch that the mother in law brings over without hesitation.

It's just not an option that my offspring will be afforded.

There are a lot of complacent Carlton followers out there that are not real supporters,'
Getting around 50K is certainly not bad but given we have more followers of the club than a club like Hawthorn that have over 70,000 people signed up, we have a long way to go in terms of the removing the apathy to actually be a member too.

The club itself still needs to improve areas too. I had something in a membership kit sent to me before the season telling me congrats for being a member for 7 years. I think since 1982 season, I have been a member every year of some sort from junior up, I have a feeling in 1994 due to a full on study commitment I was not a member that year.
Clearly these 7 years congrats someone sent from membership department pulled out of their arse. Very amateur. It would be better to not send anything at all than make such poor mistake that gives the message we really have no idea of our own membership base as a club. Still a long way to go off field and on. Baby steps.
Well done on the 48K that actually are true supporters of our club.

Who are you to say they're not true supporters? Maybe they can no longer afford it.

Of course we won't have as many as Hawthorn. Success brings in supporters (or delusion in the case of the Tigers) Such is the nature of professional sport.

Someone that has supported my club for decades even through tough times financially.

Some will find it tough and missing on years in financial strife which , goes without saying but if you really love your club and can attend games you will be a member most seasons.

Last sentence is pretty patronising

Yes there are very loyal and "true" supporters who have financial impediments to becoming a member. However Carlton fans are not disproportionately affected by financial hardship.

It is a cold heart fact that many of our fan base are apathetic and aren't joining up. We are behind Essendon in membership after they've endured 2 years of utter hell off field. We've been overtaken by Sydney and Geelong (which despite their brilliant last decade would have been unthinkable.

We are 25k members behind Collingwood and Hawthorn. Our membership base is too small as a proportion of our supporter base. Deflections about an inability for some people to buy memberships are just that, deflections.

We seem to have a LOT of bandwagon supporters. And it is incredibly disappointing.

I don't see the bandwagoners as a huge disappointment. That's how it is, every club in any sport in the world as a small group of die-hards and then an outer shell of casual supporters who still attend games/buy merchandise but don't see the point in signing up for a membership. That's just how it is, the average joe doesn't see the benefits in signing up.

And yeah I don't blame the SA supporters, I wouldn't sign up if the club showed as little interest in playing in Perth as they do in Adelaide.

What people are upset about is it seems that we have a larger proportion of our supporter base which is bandwagoners. Why else are we so far behind all the other big Victorian teams!

Also, I don't blame the club. Why should they be seeking to play games against Adelaide and Port in Adelaide? We are in it to win games and I'd much rather play Gold Coast or Brisbane away than Port or Adelaide.

For us, the Adelaide fans. We have the most Adelaide fans of any club outside Crows and Port. Give us a match!

Yes but does the tally mean full paid up members or is it also counting 3 game ,1 game, dog, cat, goldfish etc members as I have seen other clubs do that we seem to not be doing.
