I've never been much of a gambler, so excuse me if this is the dumbest question, but what do you mean by "the line"? I've heard it mentioned a few times and now I am curious. I'm guessing it's something to do with the margin/score?

You think Chinese food is awful?o_O
In China, yes. Chinese food in Oz is way different to 'real' Chinese food.

Huh?

You've become so paranoid about that AFL you have given them mythical power & reach
You need to have kept reading. AFL are good at going after soft targets - those things that are seen to make them look good without really doing anything. Including a segment on managing depressed players, or things to look out for, is not only reasonably easy to implement, but make them seen to be doing something. As I said, for them, it's all about the optics. When it comes to dealing with football issues like tanking or doping an entire squad, they decide to "manage" the situation instead of actually dealing with it. I guess, both are the same in the end - all about the brand.

I've read multiple descriptions of the line and I still don't get it.

Exactly what I thought. All wind.
Ok. Show me an article or a direct quote from Hartlett regarding a $700k per year salary at Port Adelaide. Let me go out on a limb here...you can't find one. Don't make outlandish claims and Pass them off as fact. I, exactly like you, have no idea how much any players earn, but I'm fairly confident that Hartlett's 5 year deal would have been considerable less per year then what was (rumoured but hardly confirmed) offered by North or Richmond as I believe he would have taken the long term deal at less $$$ for the job security. I can't back that so up won't call it fact as you have done. That's all I've got to say on this issue.

So the difference between you and them is about a foot of ceramic?
And the fact that I cook my Brontasaurus burgers.

Sorry, third world conditions don't appeal.

"Fuqing is one of the centers of a booming industry that over two decades has transformed this country into the biggest producer and exporter of seafood in the world, and the fastest-growing supplier to the United States.

But that growth is threatened by the two most glaring environmental weaknesses in China: acute water shortages and water supplies contaminated by sewage, industrial waste and agricultural runoff that includes pesticides. The fish farms, in turn, are discharging wastewater that further pollutes the water supply.

“Our waters here are filthy,” said Ye Chao, an eel and shrimp farmer who has 20 giant ponds in western Fuqing. “There are simply too many aquaculture farms in this area. They’re all discharging water here, fouling up other farms.”

Farmers have coped with the toxic waters by mixing illegal veterinary drugs and pesticides into fish feed, which helps keep their stocks alive yet leaves poisonous and carcinogenic residues in seafood, posing health threats to consumers."

No thanks

Warren Tredrea stated it on Triple M and considering you haven't provided any evidence otherwise and I'm betting he knows more than you. Btw - don't come onto this board and try and lecture one of us. You're a windbag claiming facts without backing it up and then having a crack at me for not providing any 'facts'.

Third world...

I wouldn't trust an American publication, especially one warning against buying Chinese imports. Sets off alarm bells it does.

I notice you like your imported cars though. Lol.

Would you trust the Chinese farmer doing the "farming ?

Actually I drive a German car these days.

My name here is based on a completely different set of circumstances.
And if farming fish in raw sewerage is not third world.....well....you must enjoy the daily dose of e coli.

Amazing story for Sam Reid from the Giants.

Debuted in 2008 for the Bulldogs, played 10 games in 4 years before crossing to the Giants in their first year. Ended up only playing 14 games in 2 seasons there before retiring at the end of 2013 to become a development coach at GWS and captain the NEAFL side. Re-listed as a rookie at the start of 2016, and has been promoted to play this weeks game against Sydney. 1072 days since his last game in 2013, bloody amazing persistence!

Suns dropped Aaron Hall. Don't get it at all. He plays as a mid and does well, Eade throws him back to the forward line where he's always been inconsistent, he struggles to make an impact and they then drop him.
Ridiculous call, also coming back from a shoulder. He's been their best mid over the whole season, but one poor game and gone... can't see Eade lasting up there.

That's Fuqing terrible and the reason I only buy SA caught seafood.

You have any proof he took unders? Never heard or read anything about that. What I did hear is other clubs supposedly offering him 700k a year and Port cropping their dacks he might leave and quickly and crazily matching the offer. If he took unders I'm happy to be shown the proof and admit I'm wrong.

"The club's highest-ever draft selection, who still had one year to run on his existing contract, has reportedly resisted lucrative offers from Victorian clubs by signing a long-term deal with Port."

So they offered more money and more years, we matched the years and he re-signed.

Did you even read the article? It doesn't say that the Vic club offers were more lucrative, just that they were lucrative.

And then you get this which suggests Port matched.

I'm incredibly happy that the footy club has come to the party and I'll be hanging around for a few more years.

"I've been here for a significant amount of time already. I've invested a lot in the footy club and the footy club has invested a lot in me.

"So for them to counter offer the way they did was really pleasing
.

"I'm just pretty thankful to the footy club for doing that."

Ha ha ha massive fail. All it says is that he signed with Port and resisted offers from other clubs. Says nothing about accepting less money, you've just added that in.

Depression is hardly a niche issue. Certainly a coach shouldn't have to be able to provide the same sort of psychological support that a trained medical professional can, but what we're talking about here is a very basic understanding of an extremely common ailment that lots of people have to deal with every day.

That isn't something just a coach should have to deal with, it's something every person should know how to approach. It's a very basic and necessary skillset if you're going to be in the business of dealing with people, as coaches are. And it doesn't take much training to identify possible depression and say okay this person is clearly going through some stuff maybe I should change my approach here.

Burying your head in the sand and saying oh it isn't my speciality is naive and potentially very harmful.
Pardon my intrusion - I get where you are coming from but I very firmly disagree. Clinical depression is in fact not "an extremely common ailment" but if you think someone in your group is suffering from depression then best to talk to a qualified person who can then make an approach if required.

The problem for a lay person dabbling with mental health issues is that he/she/transgender will be deemed to have the same standard of care as a medical professional in that area - which raises medical negligence issues. Same thing for other areas (e.g. a lawyer advising a client on investments = a stockbroker). Plenty of case law on this.

I would certainly not expect an organization such as the AFL or its servants/agents to take on this role. Its lawyers would be all over it.
