Well being completely serious, I'd be far more sympathetic to clubs seeking a "top up" for injured players than I am to topping up lists to cover players who have taken part in a systematic doping program.
It gives me the absolute sh1ts that the AFL is in damage control over this and their principle concern is the competition and the dollar, and they are going out of their way to support Essendon and the players who are guilty. Where's the strong messages from the AFL hierarchy regarding PED's?
The rookie list is to "top up" the main list in the event of a long term injury. If you don't get a "top up" rookie when one is elevated for a long term injury, why should you get one to replace a drug cheat?
I really won't be too surprised if the AFL allows the Power, Saints, Melbourne and the Bullies "top up rookies", as this follows form and their soft on drugs approach they have taken to date.
