I agree with the decision but just putting myself in Angus' shoes for a moment, that would have been BRUTAL to experience. Feel for him (and Mark McVeigh at GWS training) experiencing that.
Find it very hard to see Monfries playing AFL again at his age and with Port's list profile.

Heard McDevitt speak on MMM and didn't feel the need to listen to any of the other pressers in full, especially after the snippet I heard from Marsh. As Roo said, if anyone wants to hear the facts in a simple and coherent manner without any other ramblings about the poor innocent players, this is the guy to listen to.
Is it my imagination, but does Roo seem to be the only AFL person to be saying it as it really is? (only going from those couple of twitters - I've never heard him on radio)

when it comes down to it, I just don't see how the players can claim to be innocent rubes hoodwinked by sharper people in authority

if they thought everything was ok:
1. why lie to ASADA testers?
2. why hide it from your doctors
3. why lie about whether Dank attended games?

I don't see how these facts can be squared with innocent, good faith
Also, not one of them mentioned it to their managers. Surely when they signed the consent form one of them would raise it with their manager "have you heard of one of these before" or even talk to the players union.

Very damning they get it all so quiet, and not revealing it when they were tested.

You can't feel sorry for the players, they were in it up to their eyeballs.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld a World Anti Doping Agency appeal that claimed 34 Essendon players had systematically taken banned substances. This basically confirmed that Essendon were covertly attempting to cheat and administer performance enhancing drugs.

Of course the AFL is going to give them the #1 draft pick

The best thing to come from this would be the end of the AFL boys club.
Gillon is a lawyer, can anyone believe that. He is also CEO of the countries largest sporting organisation. Completely clueless.
One day we may end up a professional, nationwide sporting organisation.

They were all happy to be injected when they thought that it would help them.
I actually can't believe the level of sympathy for the players, they got injected with stuff, it wasn't like someone spiked their powerades.
Hird is an absolute grub.
Watson should handback his Brownlow. It's the ethical thing to do, he may have thought that he was within the rules but he wasn't and has now been suspended for doping during the period that he won the medal.
The AFL should be re-examining the club and hammering with further sanctions, this was a top down, systematic approach to gain advantage over the competition that was outside the bounds of the rules.
The sympathy that some have is attributed to the fact that if anyone has ever played in a footy club knows that you don't rock the boat and that you almost blindingly accept what the club does and says. Unfortunately the Club and Hird let them down.

I wish today's findings also meant that the EFC had to close its doors for 12 months.

The whole point of the draft system is equalisation.

If Essendon finish last and get pick 1 it's disadvantaging the team who finishes second last because come round 1 2017 Essendon's list will be far better than whoever finishes 17th.

Doesn't that mean the AFL is engaging in conduct prejudicial to the draft by turning a blind eye?

This whole thing reflects pretty badly on ASADA. To have their ruling (which took two years) appealed and overruled pretty much confirms that they either did not do their due diligence or were pressured by the AFL.

Dill McLachlan needs to go but then we already knew that from how he treated Bailey. Scumbag.

Carro deserves a medal for seeing this story through (and copping a tirade of abuse and threats along the way).

Gil has only one thing in mind... media rights
Correct. I think he is highly motivated in ensuring that the Dons get back on their feet. Gillon implied on the TV that they would help the club if or when they are sued. The damages is likely to be in the tens of millions too.

I hope some clubs protest against this.
