This whole thing reflects pretty badly on ASADA. To have their ruling (which took two years) appealed and overruled pretty much confirms that they either did not do their due diligence or were pressured by the AFL.

Dill McLachlan needs to go but then we already knew that from how he treated Bailey. Scumbag.

Carro deserves a medal for seeing this story through (and copping a tirade of abuse and threats along the way).
Doesnt reflect badly on ASADA at all. If anything they have been vindicated amongst all the public pressure. Plus you are aware they had to contend with 3 lawsuits from Hird and Essendon about the legality of the investigation. That probably delayed this verdict by 12 months.

I think Essendon's 2015 position is a good measure of where Essendon are at, a pick any better than that would be reward for cheating. Not that they will be in good shape after the penalties and I take no joy in it.

The sympathy that some have is attributed to the fact that if anyone has ever played in a footy club knows that you don't rock the boat and that you almost blindingly accept what the club does and says. Unfortunately the Club and Hird let them down.

I wish today's findings also meant that the EFC had to close its doors for 12 months.
I'm not a sheep, I don't get it. I have also played a lot of sports at a lot of clubs, there is nothing worse than back patting and group think.
That sympathy allows the players not to take responsibility.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I went off the footy show when they became more about variety entertainment than about football discussion. I dont mind the personalities but there is a lot better content on and out of the something like 70 hours of new football content each week on television alone, it dropped down the list of priorities.
I didn't mind it when Eddie was there tbh but since then for me I have never watched an episode since.

It's not a footy show as you said, more like reality tv show.

I'm not saying I have sympathy for the players but I appreciate having played footy at two different clubs the difficulty in challenging authority and the culture.

What they should have done is before taking the injections reported this to the AFL privately.

If Watson hands his medal back - and thats the prediction Caro made on Footy Classified tonight - then I doubt the AFL will award the 2012 medal elsewhere. Essendon contaminated the whole of the 2012 season and there is no way to know how the votes might have fallen in any Essendon game and how that might have changed the final Brownlow vote - the whole vote rankings may well have changed. So I think its best to simply not award a medal for that year full-stop.

ETA: Even if they take out all Essendon votes for the season and recount, there's no way to know if Essendon were out/barred from receiving votes that season how that might have changed the umpires' voting decisions and therefore the final rankings - so no medal in 2012 IMO.

Mitchell and Cotchin to be awarded medals (pending being able to find Cotchin)
Ironic that Mitchell gets the medal as a fallout, as he got himself into trouble last year with pretending to shoot up during a game to the Dons players.

The sympathy is formed on the back of Aussie club and team sport culture where the coach reigns supreme.

And I'm also sceptical that Essendon was the only team "pushing the boundaries" pre 2013. But they are taking the whack, not dissimilar to our penalty for Tippetts payments which was happening at every club, and Melbourne's sanctions for "not tanking" whilst other clubs got off scott free.

They have awarded medals retrospectively and I hope they do. They did it in the olympics and let's not forget there are heats in the olympics before the finals where the athlete would have eliminated others from the final.

Personally if it was me I would accept the medal if a drug cheat best me.

I think Adelaide athlete Jarred Tallent is set to receive a gold medal after finishing second to a Russian doper at the olympics.

Yep but its different in a one-off event - much more clear cut. See my post above - this is multiple votes over many games - so I'm not sure you can assume that the runner up in this case is the legitimate recipient.

Agreed eg. A game where Watson got 3 votes and Scott Thompson got 2 for example.

If anything getting votes against juiced up players would have been harder.
