Must just be me. I don't see what a big deal it is

What difference does it make whether they traded their future 2nd or GWS' future 2nd?

They've still got a second round pick in next years draft

Does it matter that much?
They have kept a worse pick when the afl supposedly wants to limit clubs trading their best picks.

Yeah, the Hawks' second could be quite a bit more valuable than the one GWS get. They still have a second, but if the rules had been followed, the trade might not have happened at all.
Might not be too. This a club with a pretty good track record

GWS we all expect to do well but they wouldn't be the first young surging team to slip back unexpectedly.

I would not have assumed there will be that much difference

It's more the fact that they move the goal posts to help some clubs, and screw others.

I'm still pissed about the Geelong flip-flop. Saying 'you can use two first round picks next year and be fine' just stinks of manipulation.

So ... China?

On radio this morning, someone said they heard Rooch or their Media Guy say that the AFL hadn't done enough so it wasn't going to happen.

Anyone hear it?
Another one that Rucci has got wrong.

He probably thought it was not happening because Kochie had not spoon fed him the story yet.......

The whole trading period has been a joke

Geelong being allowed to trade future 1st round picks even though the rules said they couldn't, the Hawthorn trade fiasco with O'Meara and the AFL giving extra time to Calrton and Hawthorn to get the O'Meara and Marchbank deals to get done.

Gill is spineless and comes across as a very weak and apathetic leader, the clubs appear to realise this and the tail is starting to wag the dog.

As much as we didn't like Vlad at least he had some conviction and didn't have a problem stamping his authority and making a decision.

The new regime is a joke, Gill can't even make a decision on Watson's brownlow medal. They had 12 months to make a decision as to what would happen if the Essendon appeal failed yet here we are months later and the AFL still hasn't made a decision on it yet.

Pity I had to do uni work last night because the AFL would have won the silly fellow Award once again by a landslide. The number of times they have stuffed up this year alone show that Gill should not be in the job.
The CEO of a large organisation should have a minimum level of IQ.

There is no way Gil would pass & he's not even smart enough to get away with pretending to run the AFL... as struggles to put a cohesive sentence together when being questioned.

I gather it's the likes of Mark Evans who are really running the AFL... so no wonder they are happy to change the rules for the Hawks, along with their free-kicks at critical moments...

Was thinking this morning, it's a different kind of incompetence. Vlad gave me more of a really corrupt feeling, whereas I get a strong notion of imcompetence now that Gil's running the show.

Feels like Gil is weaker and there's people behind the scenes getting what they want with little opposition

The corruption is still there... just Gil is obvlivious to it.

So Port are playing Gold Coast in Shanghai in Round 8. Surprised it's not around the bye, because those flights will SUCK. Also, it's ridiculous that it's a Gold Coast home game despite Port initiating the whole thing

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-26/afl-rejects-queries-over-approval-of-omeara-trade

also, everything's fine, it's about the net result apparently

so if that last minute trade hadn't gone through, the net result would have been bad, then there would have been a problem

thank god for that last minute trade
Lol, the AFL are treating the average AFL supporter like they have the IQ of the AFL CEO.

This full wording/clarification of the rule was added after the trade period. If it truely is about "net value", then how can the AFL guarantee that the Hawks future 2nd rounder will be the same or more value as GWS's 2nd rounder using their own points system? They can't unless they already know next year's finishing order...

Who is playing Port & Gold Coast in round 9?

I'll take a guess that it will 2 Victorian clubs...
