I can see that backfiring big-time. I would just hate a Jarman to be "over-looked" when we could get him for a discount. Surely there are enough signs combined with the DNA to get him under F/S ??
I dont think the Club would take the risk and look like fools if we could get him under the F/S rule if he has some potential, esp with the Hawks keen on him.

We would want him definitely imo. Aside from potential there is the marketing angle as well.

Betts wont last forever, CC has yet to make his mark. The landscape of small forwards can change in an instant. Freo are now likely to be without one.
Again, it's easy to say he can take over for Betts or whatever, but they have to make a decision if he is actually capable of being an AFL player.

Port are assy enough to pull it off. If I were GC I'd tell them I'd give them back their second rounder and they can take it or leave it.
Surely GC wouldn't be dumb enough to pull the trigger on pick 6 for Hartlett?

That's approaching the 90's Freo level of trade stupidity.

Milera can play forward, Menzel was traded in on a 4 year deal

I reckon GC would keep pick 6 and send a later pick to Port for Hartlett. They will have 6 top 25 picks, they will keep their top 10 picks.

Pick 6 is enough for Prestia, there is no need for Port to be involved in the deal, if Hartlett is going to GC it would be a separate trade.

Eade has said that with either the Prestia or O'Meara trade that he wants an established player

However with that said why would Harlett go to GC, if pushed out wouldn't he want to go to a club that it is on the verge of challenging for the flag

Marketing does not even come in to the equation, winning games is best for football marketing

The club has Jarman pegged as a 3 round pick and this is where you usually target players on a needs basis

It seems that we have plenty of players that could play a Ben Jarman role
There is of course a marketing angle of having our first father son at the Club, it is why there is so much discussion about him and the only reason. However, the number one variable which I first stated is potential. If he doesnt have the potential in the eyes of the recruiters, he will be passed on.

Im not sure Hartlett will go though and uproot his life after committing the next 5 years to living in SA last year. We surely should be in the mix.

I have a feeling Hartlett wouldn't mind the GC lifestyle.
It will depend on what his priorities are and what other Clubs are offering. Not sure if GCS can afford to pay a player like him $700k a year. Interesting times ahead.

Milera can play forward, but he wont end up being a forward imo at our Club. CC has yet to take the next step properly and Menzel similarly wont play the small forward role either for us.
I think CC has a better chance of making it than Ben Jarman

CC has more strengths and strings to his bow

Ben like Milera and Charlie would also be expected to play different roles

Personally I hope we stay a mile away from him.

He's never come close to fulfilling his potential, he's on a massive long term deal and we'd more than likely have to pay huge overs at the trade table.

No thanks.

While I do agree, its easy to make that assertion given how raw Jarman is. Lets not forget some of the best players in the comp didnt get picked till much later in the draft. While Jarman may be underdeveloped at this stage or not showing any great signs, having a father like Darren in his corner goes a long way for him acting on his potential.

I still believe the Club will go after him.

If the problems and reports at Alberton are true about issues with him and with him holding all the cards in terms of moving or staying, we could get him for unders. I would only take him at unders and with Port paying a portion of his salary as well.

No way is Hartlett worth pick 6 anyway. Disregarding what they paid for him in the first place, he's worth no more than pick 15ish on current form.
At best, They could package 9 and Hartlett to get 6 and perhaps another pick in the 20s.

Port need youth and depth. Surely they'd be interested in CEY, Grigg, Dear, Wigg or other guys in our SANFL side tearing up but can't break into our 1's.

I do like the thought of getting Hartlett. Not too keen on giving up our pick 1 especially as we have no pick 2.
