2016 Official LFFL Medal awards night

Well it's that time of year again when most of us are enjoying Mad Monday or have for several weeks. Tonight is no longer about the teams or results, but about the individuals who have shone the brightest. We find out who excelled among their peers with the best players, best coaches, and those who did enough to win some kind of award we came up with.

In traditional awards night style, it is the Monday before the big clash between the City Oval Plovers and American Rednecks, both of whom have made the grand final. Can the Plovers make it two in a row? Or can the Rednecks cause a major upset on the weekend? Right now nobody cares because it's all about posting images of the dates coaches wish they had in real life, and drinking beers they aren't actually drinking right now.

But tonight will be different to most awards nights, as it will kick off about 5.30pm, with a break between 7-8 before wrapping up after 8pm. This is because the MC has a prior commitment he must attend to, but it will help with the suspense!

Tonight we will crown new champions and they will be forever etched in history as the top LFFL players for 2016. Who will be crowned the new LFFL medallist? Will it be Knights midfielder Patrick Dangerfield? Plovers big man Max Gawn? Or even Ladyboys dominant forward Tom Lynch? Perhaps Classy Gentlemen's tackling machine Liam Shiels?

Nobody knows. Like seriously, because I'm only a few rounds into the voting and haven't counted them yet. So get your tips in and try and brag to your mates later because you managed to guess a fantasy game's leading player.

Good luck to everyone, don't forget to bring your dates, although if you're gym4life, you're probably bringing half a date and they forget to wear clothes.

View attachment 279524 Also pie where are the awards being held? I will just circle Australia in my private jet until you confirm.

Well we could test out that fuel tank until you meet a fiery doom and let's see you coach a flag from the grave!

I think we usually have it at Crown Casino but the storyline is not the main feature, usually it's just bagging the coaches.

Come one, all it is the night of nights on the LFFL calendar. We are about to begin here at Crown Casino with a few of the easier to pick awards while the monkeys are still tallying the LFFL Medal votes (what a joke they are).

Anyways, without further adue, we will kick off with the Most Improved Coach award!

The Most Improved Coach award would have had a different recipient had this bloke's season ended at the semi-final stage. Often maligned and laughed at by the many coaches in the league for a mistake he made in the first draft *cough* Sam Iles *cough*, this coach has certainly lifted his game in 2016 and has gone from average thereabouts with his side, to now contesting the grand final.

It is with my greatest pleasure, I award the Most Improved Coach award to noneother than American Rednecks coach Deddy. It was a tough choice between Deddy and Danoz who gets an honourable mention for his top two finish before his straight sets exit. Both coaches have stood out this year, but with the slightly more successful finals series, Deddy has earned the top dong.

Well done Deddy!

The Rednecks will be busting out our best overalls for the occasion, however due to the game on the weekend the boys will be limited to 3 jugs of moonshine each.

Timed my entry well! Thanks Pie, now to top it off with a premiership!

The LFFL Coach of the Year is an award not handed out lightly. It is presented to the coach who has performed the most consistently throughout the home and away season and finals series on the field (keyboard?). He won it last year, and this year he has backed up with an equally impressive performance and will face off in the grand final for the second consecutive year.

It is hard to hand it to anyone else for pure consistency of scores week in, week out. Congratulations to Jordie_tackles for winning the LFFL Coach of the Year award for the second consecutive year. No doubt you will take out another flag next week, but for now, you can collect this make believe trophy once again.

Congratulations Jordie!

Now to the Best First Year Coach award. In an award that rarely throws up any surprises, this coach has not only won it by default, but on his own merits too. He has led his club into the semi-finals despite naming no emergencies throughout the season and often forgeetting to name a captain. Given his only challenger decided not to show up after the draft, Congratulations to gym4life for taking out the Best First Year Coach award.

Now to the final coaches award of the night. The one you've all been waiting for... The People's Choice Coach of the Year....

Also there's always one that votes for themselves, so those votes are ineligible. Nice try, I know who you are ;)

Now onto the 2015/16 Draft Pick of the Year award! This award is to the best valued pick from round four or later in the draft based on their value to the team and how they have performed this year.

There were a few candidates for this award, but as much as he can barely carry the trophies he already has, I have awarded the 2015/16 Draft Pick of the Year to Lachie Hunter (City Oval Plovers).

Hunter was taken in round 10 (14th round overall) at Pick 109 (157 overall) and has not only continued his late season form from last year, but has excelled as a defender for the Plovers. Earning a spot in the Plovers starting line-up is no easy feat, but Hunter has done that and been a key cog back there with plenty of consistency.

Well done Lachie and well done Jordie_tackles ... again!

The last of the minor awards... the LFFL Rising Star of the Year award will now be presented.

After consolidating his place in the Adelaide line-up one bloke who has gone above and beyond with his ball winning ability and clearance rate is that of Draconian Knights star Matt Crouch. The inside/outside positioned midfielder has really stood up in 2016, allowing for flexibility with Danoz players and helped him finish top two. Congratulations to Matthew Crouch and Danoz!
