I'm not going to be able to look at anything for about 3 hours. I'm happy for someone to take the pick for me, if not I will select later this evening.

Sorry for the delay

Melbourne select Sam Walker, Glenelg.

Sam Walker
Medium Defender (Glenelg/South Australia)
16/03/1998 | 187cm | 80kg

I envision this guy becoming an invaluable rebounding defender. Outstanding ball usage. Good intercept marking.

No1Suspect is stuck in traffic and has asked me to pick for him. Wants real speed through the midfield which is understandable given their on ball division has been built and Dunstan, Armitage and Ross are first choice players so I'm overlooking someone I have ranked at 21 and going for needs. There isn't a heap of players like this left but I think I've found one worthy of being on a list.

Pick 46 - St Kilda - Quinton Narkle

Flashy wing/half forward that's at his best sprinting forward of the play but likes to get involved in the contested stuff as well. Level headed lad who is deeply involved already in aboriginal culture and is a mentor at Wesley College. Disposal can be a bit hurried but at other times he can cause damage that very few in this draft can. Over age player for WA in the national champs and played well after not playing a game last year. Huge improver this year and averaged 27 possessions and two tackles per game in the WAFL colts. Now that the Saints foundation is built he's the sort of guy who adds some real icing to the cake.

Pick 47 - Brisbane - Matt Guelfi

We're going with a 19yo midfielder who was overlooked in last years draft, with possibly the worst haircut in draft history, come on down Matt Guelfi!

Note the air vents.

Midfielder Claremont/Western Australia - 184cm - 78kg - 14/8/1997

The inside midfielder is at his most comfortable ripping the ball out of clearances and getting it his side's way. He averaged 16 disposals a game at the NAB AFL Under-18s carnival and more than half of those (around 10) were won in contested situations. He was also ranked sixth overall for clearances, and fourth for tackles, showing his willingness to work hard and throw his body into the thick of the action. Guelfi's touches were important for WA, and he was second for his state in inside-50 entries. He's a nicely sized prospect with an appetite for getting his hands dirty.

I wouldn't mind seeing Narkle come to Carlton. I know that you say he's icing but if he's available at this part of the draft, which he should be, if we added some icing that'd be a win. I think he's a better disposer of the ball than most scouts would give him credit for. If he makes the adjustment to the speed of the game then look out. Potential match winning quality. I was seriously considering him for Melbourne but I think that they have enough X factor and needed more solid, sure thing but less upside, types.

West Coast select:

Joe Atley
186 cms, 84 kgs, Bendigo Pioneers

The younger brother of Shaun, Joe isn't quite the same athlete but there is some overlap. Reports have queries over his kicking but his action and decision making seem fine, so perhaps he's trying to do a little too much in tighter spaces, but then again tighter spaces are we he does his best work; Atley is a very good inside mid who continually uses his acceleration, sidestep and long arms to get free of the tackler and feed the ball out with precision.

He's a yard slower than his brother but shows good work rate and is good for a goal most games at TAC level, and even two goals in his VFL debut. I don't see him slowing down in an AFL program, so while there's a lot of 'what you see is what you get' with him, I think his propensity to keep running, and clean hands off the deck and overhead could give him an edge on the outside at AFL level.

Will add my shortlist once we're done with this round.

zeeCFC, you're up!

EDIT: corrected height
