WCE Review:
Kobe Mutch
Zach Sproule
Joe Atley

GWS' bidding process made this a dream run for West Coast, who got to address needs while getting great value at each pick (in their opinion). Mutch and Atley provide great ball-winning ability on the inside in combination with a propensity to run all day and provide great value on the outside with their bodywork, decision making, clean hands, skills and willingness to push forward and back to support the team.

Sproule offers a chance to renew the key forward stocks, as well as the intelligence to switch to defence and do his job for the team if called upon. He has no pressure to develop too quickly with a mature and functioning WCE forward line, but is a good chance to partner well with Kennedy within 2 seasons.

In terms of players that were screaming out to be picked after Atley, not sure there really was anyone.

I wanted a key forward as a project, but this year's draft didn't really throw me any prospects I like.
Based on other phantoms and reading around, here's a decent shortlist:

Waterman (WCE F/S)

Brennan Cox (KPD for SA U18s, otherwise plays KPF at junior level)

Jordan Ridley (tall mid/utility who is an excellent mark, clean hands and skills and a big frame)

Mitch McCarthy (similar to Ridley but can leap and pinch hit as a ruck, where he played a lot of his 6 TAC games; raw)

Nick Larkey (At either end for Metro at the champs, another tall utility who was KPF/Ruck at TAC level)

One more mentioned is Oscar Junker, another medium/tall mid, who seems to kick bags every so often, but regularly in the bests for Western over the last 18 months.

Personally I would have looked at Ridley, McCarthy and Larkey, they look very dynamic and capable.

GCS
#4 - Sam Petrevski Seton
#5 - Jack Bowes
#21 - Jy Simpkin
#22 - Joshua Rotham
#23 - Brad Scheer
#29 - Shai Bolton
#40 - Jack Graham

Amazing draft for the Suns, couldn't have really gone any better in terms of when the Academy Bids came. Picking up Bowes and SPS immediately turns that midfield back into a threat. Gary Ablett, Jack Martin, Aaron Hall, Dave Swallow, SPS and Bowes is an amazing on ball section. Jy Simpkin and BRad Scheer also have a lot of upside to throw into that list. Joshua Rotham is one i'm really ecited for and fits GCS's needs well and Bolton and Graham are good project player pickups who can work their way into the side.

North Melbourne:

#11 - Tim Taranto
#30 - Jamie Hampton

Thrilled with Taranto as gives us another goal-kicking flanker to link up with Garner.
Shot off early on Hampton but we need a bit of x around the ground and I feel he'll grow as a footballer.
Probably should have taken Florent here but never mind.

BTW: Special credit to FlowersByIrene for driving this. Well done. :thumbsu:

Essendon

1. Will Brodie
19. Jordan Gallucci
37. Jack Maibaum

Fairly happy with how this turned out. I've already given my reasons for picking Brodie so no need to go over that again. At 19 I would've picked Battle despite having Gallucci a bit higher due to Essendon really needing another young key forward to partner up with Daniher. Still, got a really good young prospect that I have rated highly. Only a slight reach for Maibaum due to the Bombers needing talls, I'm a fan of Atley and Bunker but they weren't as suitable for Essendon as another tall was.

Cheers FBI, really enjoyed it.

I rate Graham's football IQ and competitiveness FBI, but do you think he'll play midfield at AFL level?

I think he lacks the burst there, but would do well in a defensive unit.

I didn't know a lot about him to be honest, but as you said, searched for elements that give him the best chance to succeed in the unique Gold Coast enviroment, attitude, football ability, IQ, and grit that are needed for project players to succeed on the Gold Coast I think. However he is still a bit of a gamble, and I think it's likely GC won't take a player like him and will probably have dropped that draft pick by the end of the trade period. I think they'll take their Academy kids only besides kids they can get inside top 20 odd.

Now that trade week is done, when are we aiming to get the second phantom up and running?
FBI mentioned we'll run another one soon. I'm campaigning to wait for some more highlights from AFL media so we can run the full draft without people getting stuck for choices.

What's the date of the draft? We'll start no later than two weeks before the start of the draft. But yeah, we'll wait for some more highlight packages to develop

25th of November, but the highlights videos were a fair bit later last year. I guess we can review this on the 10th?

Hi FBI, a little over 3 weeks to go until the draft. have we got a date in mind for when we will start our final phantom draft?

FlowersByIrene ....... You've been summoned. :)

Yep. Perfect time to get one going as it won't be influenced by any insider knowledge.

I'm happy to take North again, but feel I may not see Taranto and should have taken Florent when I wanted to........as if it matters. :)
Are we just going to keep the same drafters and teams you reckon or should we start fresh?
