Losing Darren Millane in 1991 had a huge impact on the club & many of the playing group.
A very sad & upsetting time. I can still remember it, crystal clear when I got the news.
I was in my Singapore office & someone from our Melbourne HQ faxed through the Sun front page.
My secretary walked over to my desk & placed it in my in tray...I was devastated...couldn't work.
My Singaporean secretary was shocked at my reaction...she said "did you know him.?"
A sad day.

I remember those cold winter nights, going home and getting some fish n chips but if athas played iwas in a souvlaki mood. I think it was his name. So he will always have that.

Best team got bye, got two shots if needed to make GF.
They must win 2 games to be premier.
Next two teams got double chance but had to win one more.
Bottom of the five trams had to win straigh 4.

I remember it clearly too.....I heard that a high profile player had been killed in a car crash. For some reason the first name that came to my head was Dermie.

My brother played junior footy with Millane...and coincidentally with Pat Foy who played a few games for the Swans. Foy was the more talented junior but Millane was a bull. Another coincidence is that Foy was the player Darren Burke kicked at Lake Oval on that infamous day where Burke subsequently decked teh umpire when he tried to report him

A bit like 2010 actually. We needed a ruck and an inside mid in 2010. In 1990 we needed two rovers. The prior season we'd used Kerro and Shaw as basically taggers who had no ability to be creative.

Instant results both times.

In 2016...Aish and Treloar to bolster an ok but unexciting midffield....
