Goodyear may take say 27 or 33 or something paving the way for Howe in 38.
I'd love 23 for De Goey but now seems Keefe will keep it.

I wonder when it's all announced?

Numbers we know available (of course players may swap around or say Frost gets a lower number etc)

2, 7, 14, 21, 27, 33, 35 (Sier), 39, 40, 41

If I had to guess, assuming 23 Keefe and 24 Thomas then here goes:

2 De Goey
7 Trelloar
14 Aish
21 Frost
27 Goodyear
33 Oxley
35 Sier
38 Howe
39 Phillips
40 Crocker
41 Golds
43 Wills
45 Wyatt
47 Smith

Yep, thought he was 38.
I deleted my irrelevant post.
Sunday morning...
Good morning then, trust Singapore treating you well.
Been about 7 times, fine if expensive place.

De Goey has been given number 2

De Goey has been given number 2
If so suggests Trelloar may get 7 as he was 17 in gws so sort of similar or has 7.
But I guess a player may like or prefer a certain number esp if available.

It is indeed, although currently in Malaysia for a stint (East Malaysia on Borneo), a lot cheaper than Singapore.
Singapore has been my base for the past 27 years.
My 'incorrect' post was dispatched before my first coffee...that'll never happen again.

I'd love to do a stint in an Asian country for expat role etc
Doubt they would ever give me that at work.
But I love Singapore esp they don't muck around with crime. I noticed this year in Singapore the pricing was super high. Loved the gardens and trees they have near that big boat building.
I've been to KL 4 times as well. Love the Petronas Towers, but I like that sort of thing.
Anyway enjoy yourself.

Can I ask a question..?
Why are the numbers important? Why do we care?

I find myself hoping that a certain player gets number x or y, but I'm not sure why?

It's just another strange & sometimes irrational part of following a sporting club.
The numbers are a direct link to the history of the club & past players.
They provide hope of repeated past deeds performed in that number (35 Daicos, we hope that whoever wears 35 can do some of the things Daicos did). They trigger memories.
Low numbers are considered a reward for strong/improved performances.
Some numbers are revered (5, 26, 35, 42) & whomever is granted the honour of wearing, must firstly earn & then live up to that number.
The number becomes part of the players identity.
I'm sure there have been numerous studies/thesis written by sports & or socialology students regarding the phenomenon of following sporting teams & the associated passion & odd behaviour that manifests.
It's tribal, you are part of something & the numbers assist in cementing your ties to the club.

Now that the list is complete for next year (and all of the playing group are on deck at the club this morning) I think we should find out officially today what the numbers for next year will be?

For mine, it's another example of Aussie Rules hitting the right balance. A lot of American sports have a huge range of numbers with many getting retired, so there's less linking between generations. On the other hand soccer has a very limited range of numbers tied to positions which lessens how special it is to get the same number as a previous great.

Great question.
I'm always wondering what number goes to who.
Unsure why, maybe it just settles the list in my mind.
Funnily, I don't remotely care of other teams numbers.
