At the combine, Battle performed:
- The worst standing vertical jump of everyone tested
- Was in the bottom 10% for both the running vertical jumps
- 2nd worst Agility test of everyone tested
- The worst repeat sprints of everyone tested
- Was in the bottom 10 for skinfolds.

Battle is a better player than Hourigan, but physically, they are pretty similar.

Wow those are some horrible numbers for a guy who was thought of as a back end first round/early second round pick. Will someone still pull the trigger on him in the first two rounds?

If we get Marshall can't see us taking him at 30/31 if he's on the board.

You were always more into Marshall than Battle.

I can't see us taking him (Battle) based on this when you also consider he's undersized for a KPF. The comparison to Darling isn't right given Darling's speed.

The more I dig the more I see us taking Hayward with 17 and I like it. I know Marshall fills our need more but I feel like Hayward will be the one we'd regret not drafting. Be interesting to see which way the club goes if they have a choice, and they may well have at 14. I take it you'd pick Marshall over Hayward?

Do you think we will bid on Jarman at 31?

Well he can actually run. He's one of the better endurance players in this draft.

You're giving me Stewart Cochrane flashbacks! :p

Battle reminds me of SA lad Darcy Hourigan from the 2013 draft, not exactly the same but similar and could go far lower in the draft that what is being predicted. Hourigan was predicted to go mid draft but he never got picked.

I have seen a lot of Hourigan this year. Damm good footballer.

He can play footy, just didnt have the body for top level. I think after he missed out on the draft he went back to South and then did an ACL pretty early on that season so went from missing the draft to missing a whole year of footy in the space of 6 months.

Magic numbers.

If the same player tested at both national and state screenings would the results be almost the same?

State screening they cram into one day as opposed to three at the national, so things like the endurace times are usually a bit worse than the national combine results.

Having said all that, there is a lot to like about Battle. He kicks goals, he wins matches, he's a great burst player (capable of kicking 2-3-4 goals in quick time). I just think there is a lot more risk with him than other players

I'd be ok with picking both with 14 & 17 if available, so long as we picked 2 mids with 30 & 31.

I would hope no chance at all. If we did, I doubt the Crows would match the bid.

The track at state screening is often rated as slower. So that can have a bearing. WA was often rated as very fast.
I wish they would do it on grass

Macca19 now that Barrett has been delisted by GWS what/how do we 'draft' him e.g. what is the process. Such as, is there an order for clubs to select players or can the player simply go to the club of his choosing and if that is the case do we automatically give up our last selection in the national draft. Cheers

There were also problems with slippery patches at Wayville during the SA combine. Pretty average from the SANFL, though no surprise.

I'm really starting to like Zachary Sproule. I wouldn't mind us drafting both Sproule and Marshall with the hope of one of them becoming a star. They both play with class and remind me of the elite AFL forwards

They go to the club of their choosing and get listed as a delisted free agent, outside the draft process

Ok. He kicked the ton in the Hills league this year, which is a dam good comp. Not AFL I know, but he definitely is good enough for SANFL. Cheers Macca.

Do you know/feel that he wants to come and we are keen. Thought I read previously he did a medical at Port but not sure if that was fact or fiction. Thanks for response

I've heard as much as you have. I'd be keen on him for sure.

track - as in athletics track? aren't all the combines done inside on basketball/gymnasiums with wooden floor boards?

Beep test, vertical jump, agility test etc would be done indoors but the 3km run is around a track (7.5 laps of a 400m track is considered ideal).

Ah yeah forgot about the 3km run on the track. I just assumed they would do it at the main athletics track in each state just like at the AIS has its own track - the Raiders and Brumbies helped get rid of the one at Bruce Stadium.

Stuff the phantom draft...

Macca19 whats your thoughts on Whimpress and Noonan? They both tested elite. Their highlights packages from their one state game both look impressive. Whimpress trained with his local club for the year because it was too far to get to training. He had to stay with relatives when playing away matches. Barracks for Port. Hope Port are looking very closely at them. Screams upside.

Yeah. But they are all different. Some more grip. Some more bounce.
So how much difference over a 20m sprint 0.02?? the agility run 0.05?? The repeat sprints 0.10~0.15?
