In saying that I'm all for loading up the rookie list with the Will Snelling and Jake Pitman types.

Don't care as long as they are defensively minded. I want a player that has at least a 4:1 ratio of disposals to tackles.

I haven't seen much of him but William drew looked a two way player to me. Although throughout champs he hasn't racked up the huge numbers that some guys have.

Jake Pitman is like the second coming of Roger James.

I think Scharenberg is gonna be the most reliable option at our pick. So smart with the ball.

Im liking Ainsworth more and more. If he can turn into a mid he'd be a super explosive footballer

When I heard about Ainsworth as a small forward that played more like a marking small then crumber I wasn't so sold. But when I saw him play I changed my mind.

He has something there. That body looks so compact and balanced, like gray or Ablett. Saw it in his play as well. Not that he is or will be those players but he has something there that will give him an edge that you can't easily train for. That low centre of gravity and balance helps players in tight situations, and he looks like he can make the most of that. Did other people see that in him too? ( I've only seen him once)

Are you sure? Adelaide may be going all out to get Ben Jarman as a father-son and he has been looking good so may have to be a high pick. Although he has not decided on whether he will be F/S for Adelaide or Hawthorn yet.

No chance Adelaide need to use a first on jarman. Crows don't have a second , but still reckon they'll get him for their third.

Should they be forced to use their first-rounder as a part of the point compilation if another team bids for their player in the first round? Absolutely agree. It's disgusting the concessions they get and their zones. The Riverina is a goldmine already established. No way they should have exclusive access.

Drew looks great but might be a player that takes some time to realise his potential. Raw speed and power, good kick. He's picked up 20+ touches in 6 of his 9 TAC games so he can find the ball. He has spent more time across half back than in the middle at the Champs so thats why his numbers would be lower.

Pitman or Scharenberg? Scharenberg reminds me a lot of Scott Thompson. He's got that frame that you know in 2-3 years time will be big and chiseled out of stone. Like ST, he's not overly quick, but he reads the play so well that it doesn't really matter.

Pitman didn't look overly quick but like Snelling last year, just hunts the ball and knows how to extract.

Yeah you are right. He has the balance of Alan Didak but in Dane Swan's body. He looks capable of getting to a Chad level of regularly getting 20 & 2. Certainly would be happy if he landed at our pick.

Doesn't matter now with the bidding system, that they don't have a 2nd. I think someone will bid with a 30-40 pick.

Teams certainly took advantage of the points system but it doesn't bother me too much. In the end using all your picks to get one gun, then filling your list with the last picked players in the draft is just going to screw with your depth.

GWS managed to get three first-round picks last year by bidding. Jacob Hopper by bidding 11, Matthew Kennedy(34, 40) and Harrison Himmelberg(48, 50, 55 and 59).
And yes I agree, it is the access to the Riverina that is the greater problem. You and I can and other experienced posters would be able to equate it to the pre-AFL Port Adelaide's country zones.

Absolutely. Arent (m)any 175cm small forwards that go 1st round. He'll be 30-40

I agree re. the Riverina - they should be developing new areas/talent with the Academy. The other issue though is that GWS have this incredible mass of first round talent that will both have to and happily release for early picks. Each year they can use their own and somebody else's first round pick, and then their and other teams 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders for two more first round academy picks. Where its unfair is that the huge list of talent that they have proportionately devalues the cost of all of those lower picks that they add up relative to any other side. They'll be bringing in multiple first rounders per year for many years to come.

I want us to draft some key forwards - to replace Shaw, Harvey and maybe Butcher and Schulz. we also need to start to prepare for when Hoff retires

for the forwards I hope we look either at:-
- Todd Marshall - 197cm, 87kg forward from Murray Bushrangers
- Luke Strnadica - 199cm, 93kg forward from East Fremantle

I want us to draft a ruckman (or 2) one developing and one mature

for one of the developing Rucks I hope we look at:-
- Tim English - 203cm, 86kg ruckman from South Fremantle
- Peter Ladhams - 202cm, 95kg ruckman from Norwood
- Jeremy Goddard - 202cm, 101kg ruckman from Claremont Tigers
- Jordon Sweet - 202cm, 98kg ruckman from North Adelaide

for the mature ruck I hope we look at:-
- Darcy Cameron - 203cm. 102kg from Claremont
Mobile ruckman with the ability to distribute effectively by hand and foot. An agile player who provides a good marking target around the ground and is capable in the air and at ground level.

(Darcy Cameron isn't on any other clubs radar but this year - yet - but in 11 games this year so far he has had 126 disposals he has kicked 22 goals 10 points and he has had 119 hit outs)

- An inside mid with strong clearance winning ability and solid foot skills
- Ruck with the ability to contribute around the ground
- Lead up forward to eventually take Schulz's role

Have also been wondering about Darcy Cameron. He seems to have improved, but isn't on anyone's radar.

Very few forwards in this class. Battle, Marshall strandnica and Kerr. Have no interest in strandnica unless it's as a rookie. Probably the same with Kerr. Love for battle to slide and pick him up with a second rounder if we can trade one in. Just think battle will not be a star, or all Aus , but could be a very good piece in a forward line and if there was anywhere that would be a good fit it would be port with Dixon. I like how physical battle is and he has a body that won't take long to play afl and will be able to still bully some at afl level.[/QUOTE]

Our first rounder should see us in contention for one of Marshall, Scharenberg, Venables, Scrimshaw or Powell-Pepper.

Marshall that athletic KPF who has some real X factor.
Scharenberg spoken about plenty.
SPP seems an absolute bull.
Scrimshaw could really be anything.

If Marshall isn't there, then Venables would be a great fit for us. Classy disposal, kicks goals, great burst of speed and solid work at stoppages. Hasn't got heaps of the ball, which may be why he gets to pick 8-10.

This year though I reckon it hasn't been as prevalent as the phenomenon from a few (both in the media and the bigfooty phantom drafters) to really push the academy boys higher than they otherwise would to fuel the flames of outrage to support their agenda. At one stage early this year IIRC about six of the top ten on Knightmare's board were affiliated with one of the northern academies. Now these guys are good players and I think there will be three or four who will go in the first round, but the championships have shown it was never realistic.
